Hi All,

I'm new to this software and mapping data, but have some basic questions:

  • I'm trying to map different types of data on different layers.  For some sets, I have city-level data, for others I have state-level.  Is this going to be a problem?
  • I mapped the first set just fine, but the program keeps giving me an error message when I try to import state data for two different years.  What am I doing wrong?
Any help would be much appreciated as this is for a work project on a tight timeline.

Thanks,
Nadia

Hi Nadia,

Thanks for your email. To answer your questions:

1. You can map state-level data and city-level data in different layers.

2. What's the error message? What does your CSV file look like?

Thanks,

Evan

I received the error message:

"The supplied CSV does not appear to contain any locations."

When I go to save the file, I get the following message:

"An error occurred while opening the persistent store."

If I am put the data using an Excel file to the columns have to be named only using "city" "state" or "year."

I'm trying to map mining data from 2010 and 2011 by number of employees, number of mining operations, and coal produced--and combine this (on different layers) with other mining/miner data that I  have. Could you please explain how the Excel spreadsheet should be formatted, so the information imports correctly? I have a disability, so the less inputting of data that that I have to do manually, the better.

Thanks so much for responding to my email, and for any assistance. I'm new to this but I really want to learn. I think the program could really assist me in my work.

Nadia

One more question: is there a way to export a map (that has a legend) in PDF format and maintain the legend?

Hi Nadia,

I'm afraid there's not a way to embed the legend in the PDF. This is a common feature request and will be addressed in a future version.

Best

Evan

I ended up taking a screen shot of the map and legend, then cropping the photo.
