Lughnasadh, also known as Lammas

This year Lughnasadh fell during a New Moon celebration... about this
Sabbat

Lughnasadh means the funeral games of Lugh (pronounced Loo), referring
to Lugh, the Irish sun god. These funeral games are in honor of his
foster-mother Tailte. Lugh hosts and conducts a great celebration to
Tailte. For that reason, traditional Tailtean craft fairs and Tailtean
marriages (which last for a year and a day) are celebrated at this
time in the Irish communities. It is a time of great happiness for the
abundance that was received.

Lughnasadh celebrations originally coincided with the first reapings
of the harvest. When the plants of spring wither and drop their fruits
or seeds for our use as well as to ensure future crops, the God sows
the earth with his abundance.

The grand Sun God enters his old age as autumn begins, but he is not
yet done. The God aspect symbolically loses some of his strength as
the Sun rises farther in the South each day and the nights grow
longer. It is like the autumn of life, when the peak has been reached
and the time to rest is closer on the horizon.

This Sabbat was also adopted as ‘Lammas ‘, meaning ‘loaf-mass ‘, for
Christian worship. Lammas is a time when newly baked loaves of bread
are placed on the altar. An alternative date around August 5 (Old
Lammas), when the sun reaches 15 degrees Leo, is another coven
tradition for some believers.

Traditional Foods:
Apples, Berries, whole grain Breads, Grapes and Dark Cherries.

Herbs and Flowers:
Crab Apple, Heather, Grapes, Dark Cherries, Wheat, Grains, and Pears.

Incense:
1 part Sandlewood
1 part white Sage
1/2 part clove
2 drops Aloe Oil

Crackers, there is no such thing. You die when you are supposed to.
Some folks might appear to die young, others old, some in-between, but
we all eventually die, so who's to say why?

Besides, we are all spiritual beings living a temporay Human
existance, so don't we want to move on, regardless of time of death?
I'm sorry, but I don't believe any Christian ideas about "untimely
death", that is a bunch of hooie. I believe in the creator, I don't
believe in men's ideas about what the creator intends... particularly
when it takes on a HUMAN foible, like anger or getting even for some
impudence or rude comment. Why would a creator bother with such
trivial pursuits? This is the biggest falicy I see in Christian
beliefs. The universal spiritual presence that is the creator, is
simply not human, and has no human attributes. In fact, it is the
other way around. We were created, and we have some, if only a few,
god-like attributes, in that we are creators (on a miniscule, nano-
like level in comparison).

Yes, Jesus was an enlightened man, perhaps he had a stronger spiritual
connection to the creator than normal folks, and maybe he did receive
additional spiritual guidance. He shared his ideals and made
significant contributions in his time on earth, and I am positive he
was a super-spiritual being in a Human form. He certainly had god-like
healing powers, and an amazing visionary path, and he was true to his
beliefs if the historical records are accurate. That simple quality is
extrodinarily rare in humans, if it really is humanly possible.

We all say wrong things, do bad and worse things, and think things
that we will regret, but I can never agree to the idea that God is
gonna kill you for your human failings. That is Christian scare
tactics, and it works to bring in the sheep with contributions to the
church.

Chessie: If you had read the email correctly you would have
understood it to say that those who had asked for death recieved it,
while those who challenged the almighty by calling his bluff...well
they lost big time. As Albert Einstien said: "God doesn't throw
dice"

I personally do not have the audacity to attribute the creator with
such common intent. Humans are the ones who exhibit bad behavior, and
that includes accusing God of affecting individuals by causing
untimely death if they "claim not to believe" in Christian
interpretations of what God is "truly" about. And "May God have Mercy
on your soul" some claim, as if they know what "God's mercy" really
means. Sorry, it's just such a ridiculous notion.

Chessie: I don't have a problem with you're incessant stabbings at
traditional religion, to each his/her own. But I could appreciate a
little clarity so as not to unkknowingly or accidently include those
of a spiritual nature as targets when giving your opinion.


The spirit might wither in the afterlife for reasons we can't know,
but on earth you live out whatever time is allotted. Bottom line, each
of us will die alone just like everyone else.

Chessie: The spirit does not wither in the afterlife, and our time on
earth is not allotted, nor do we die alone (unless we choose
to....aka; freewill). Time is not a valid part of the spirit, if time
is "allotted" it is by man (who is the creator of time).


Stay firm in your spiritual beliefs, don't falter, and believe
strongly in your "self". Take time to give thanks in the manner you
choose, and treat everyone else in the same way you would want to be
treated. That is a truism regardless if it comes from your soul, or is
learned by studying the life of Jesus. Amen, hallaluyah, Shalom, and
other good thoughts.
