Windows 8, MFR 7.08, no filters are on no mask. I can't drag & drop files. I can through the file list but not from an open Explorer window & drag & drop as usual.

Can you provide some further details ?

David,

Still have the problem. It's like the program is looping when running. The explorer block in MFR is constantly refreshing.

Eug, I was having a similar problem on Windows 8 with dragging and dropping, however it wasn't just limited to MFR.  When I went to drag and drop files there would be a a circle with a slash through it and it wouldn't let me do it.  I'm not sure if you are having the same issue, but following the instructions on this page fixed it for me:

http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/nipuntomar/drag-drop-not-working-in-windows-8/

(You'll need to restart MFR for it to take effect if it is open when you complete the steps)

Mat M,

This didn't help. The program seems to be looping. When I go to the folder drop down it's flashing. After a while MFG freezes.

Hello

Please try replacing the GongShell.dll file in MFR folder with the attached one. Did it solve the flashing and drag-drop problem?

The looping stopped but I still can't drag and drop. I thought it was related.

Can you describe exactly which drag and drop operation your try?

I've been using MFR for at least a couple of years now so I'm not doing anything I haven't done in the past except that now I'm using Win 8. I have Start8 installed by Stardock that brings back the Windows start button and makes my OS look and operate as the old desk top. In an open Windows With MFR open then go to Windows Explorer I used to select my files, drag them to the MFR icon on the taskbar where then MFR pops open in full screen and drop the files. I get the slash circle while hovering over the bottom half of MFR. There's no mask set up and the add files setting is checked off for add files, add folders, add folder contents. I can still drag and drop to other programs but not MFR.

Please try to reset the configuration from the menu: MFR->Tools->Reset Configuration.

That did not help. Still cannot drag and drop. MFR seems to be working fine in every respect now except the drag and drop.

Same problem here. Used to work fine. I did a new install of the same system on a new Samsung SSD... Win 7 x64, i7-960, 12Gig RAM... drag and drop from outside of MFR window does not work. Get the black circle with the line across it.

Also... I have to run the program as Administrator now, or it won't open. If I want to rename files outside of the MFR window, I can highlight them, right click, and select MFR... but the MFR.EXE file has to set to run as an Administrator. Problem related to previous drag & drop problem?

I don't know. As far as I know, I installed and registered the program the same as I did before doing this entire new same exact system installation, but on a new SSD system drive. Did not have these problems before. Haven't found a fix for this, yet.

I found a fix for this... at least for me. Don't know why this fixes it.

I have a habit of installing most 'serious' software as Administrator, which I also did with MFR. It seems that if I do this... then I have to run MFR.EXE as Administrator, AND I can not drag and drop files into the MFR file list window.

I uninstalled the program, and removed the suggested files & folders left behind, including those in the Program Data folder that David mentions in another thread...

c:\ProgramData\A703D146-86A8-11DF-9AFA-A3CDDFD72085
c:\ProgramData\FineBytes

Then I reinstalled without installing as Administrator. I still, for some reason had to enter the Registration twice before it 'took', but after it registered properly on the 2nd input, I could then open the program from the shortcut on the Desktop without being Administrator AND I can now drag files from anywhere into the MFR window.

Have absolutely no idea why this is (maybe David knows), but it did the trick. Hope it helps anyone else that comes across this problem.

Hello

I am glad to know the problem is solved. I still cannot understand why no having admin permissions affects the drag-drop but I hope it will point me the correct direction for solving this issue.

It is the exact same for every program 'run as administrator'.
You lose the ability to 'Drag,n Drop'.
The idea being that it is more secure when you can't 'Drag'n Drop'.
So don't think that it is a MFR issue,
every software is exactly the same!

I have several users on Windows 10 and have tried to uninstall and reinstall both MFR 7.4.0 and 7.4.1 and still cannot drag and drop from a File Explorer window into MFR Rename List. Any other suggestions?

Hello

I confirmed that this feature works fine on two machines I've tested so far.
What files are you trying to drag? What behavior do you get?

We are attempting to drag PDFs created from Corel Draw and/or Inkscape from a Network Share into the Rename list. It is showing the files as they drag across the Explorer window, but as soon as the cursor moves over the MFR window, the pointer looks as though the files were dropped. It isn't even working to select the files in Explorer and using the Add buttons in MFR. The only way I have found that works is to navigate and search within MFR.

And you get this behavior in multiple computers?
Are you able to drag/drop other types of files?
Please try to reset MFR configuration like this:
