Yourinitial email address in Microsoft 365 includes .onmicrosoft.com, like t...@fourthcoffee.onmicrosoft.com. You can change it to a friendlier address like t...@fourthcoffee.com. You'll need your own domain name, like fourthcoffee.com first. If you already have one, great! If not, you can learn how to buy one from a domain registrar.

When you change your domain's email to come to Microsoft 365, by updating your domain's MX record during setup, ALL email sent to that domain will start coming to Microsoft 365. Make sure you've added users and created mailboxes in Microsoft 365 for everyone who has email on your domain BEFORE you change the MX record. Don't want to move email for everyone on your domain to Microsoft 365? You can take steps to pilot Microsoft 365 with just a few email addresses instead.

I read that revealing your age in your email address isn't in your favor when you're job hunting. Is it possible to change from one email address to another WITHOUT opening a new account and deleting the old one (i.e. [email protected] to [email protected])?I was researching, but I couldn't find any information about it.

However, now that it has been called Outlook.com for quite some time, should I switch my address to an @outlook.com address or should I be worried that my @hotmail.com address eventually will go away?

For instance, when Outlook.com got migrated to its Microsoft 365 Exchange Online hosting platform, accounts that had an @outlook address as their primary address in general got migrated earlier than ones that had a legacy address as the primary address.

Therefore, you may want to consider switching to an @outlook address or at least already register an additional @outlook address for your current @hotmail mailbox (or any other legacy address you may have).

No, by default you'll continue to send out with your original email address. You can manually select your new @outlook email address when sending a message or configure it to be your new default (see further below).

To get rid of these remnants, you can re-add your Outlook.com account as an Exchange account to Outlook via Auto Account Setup. All you'd have to do is specify your name, email address and password (or App Password when you are using Two-Step Verification in an older Outlook version) and Outlook will configure your Outlook.com account by itself.

Sree Sreenivasan, a strategist with an accomplished digital resume, ignited a fierce debate on LinkedIn in January when he suggested that an email address that ends in @hotmail.com might be grounds for tossing out a job application.

Hotmail launched in 1996 as one of the first public webmail services. Originally stylized as HoTMaiL to highlight its web-based existence (HTML provides the building blocks for most web pages) and because mixing cases was inexplicably popular at the time, Hotmail offered everything that ISP-based email did not. Most notably, while its contemporaries were tied to a specific device, users could access Hotmail from any computer all over the world.

Around the same time that Yahoo acquired its main competitor, Four11 RocketMail, Hotmail went to Microsoft and underwent a series of rebranding campaigns: MSN Hotmail, Windows Live Hotmail and, finally, Outlook.com.

Job candidates submit a lot of information about themselves in an attempt to woo potential employers. Conventional wisdom often leads them to top their resumes with a summary statement and previous employment history, segueing to academics, awards and other miscellanea.

At the Seattle Times, news developer Thomas Wilburn is occasionally involved in hiring and assists in picking interns. Because development in newsrooms is still a relatively young profession, Wilburn said, no two newsroom developers have the same experience. That means developers often look for ways to determine the technical aptitude of colleagues and potential employees.

Technology-driven age discrimination lawsuits, Hotmail or not, are becoming commonplace. In December, a class-action lawsuit was filed on behalf of the Communications Workers of America and Facebook users over 40 after it was revealed that major employers used age targeting to display recruitment ads on Facebook. One of the ads, for employment opportunities at T-Mobile, was only visible to 18- to 35-year-olds. Another, for Facebook, could only be seen by 21- to 55-year-olds.

We know from analytics data that a majority of newsletter subscribers are Gmail users (disclosure: Poynter receives funding from Google). Applicants need to understand that, he said, and know how that ecosystem functions to understand audiences better.

I joined in 2006 and used a hotmail email address. Ebay asked me to update account tonight .I cannot verify as cannot receive hotmail any more .now my old account is deleted and I'm a newbie again .must be an easier way of doing this thought Ebay was about building up feedback .mines 0 again

Recently, Google announced they would be discontinuing the G Suite legacy free edition, pushing people to upgrade to a paid Google Workspace subscription. Unsurprisingly, this resulted in a serious backlash from many users, and Google had to back down a bit. They now allow people who use the G Suite legacy free edition for non-commercial purposes to opt out of the transition to Google Workspace. We have more on this topic in our blog:

eBay is aware of a hotmail issue whereby reset password emails are not being sent to eBay users. eBay claims the issue is with hotmail, not eBay. Other eBay messages get through but the reset password email, not. This has been going on for more than a month. There is an open ticket on the problem, but as of yesterday, no progress.

Hotmail is useless, so steer clear. Their email providers are not reliable, and cause bounceback issues from particular senders. I have a live.com.au account, and the live email address is an alias to a Hotmail address. Mail sent to the live mail account is processed by Hotmail. Hotmail causes me greef.

eBay is hundred percent correct on their statement. Live.com.au uses Hotmail addresses. So if you send to someone at live.com.au, then Hotmail processes the message, and causes bounce backs. Live Mail is connected to Hotmail. Hotmail is causing all the emails I receive from eBay to bounce back, so I ditched my live.com.au account and switched to an outlook.com account, and every email from eBay appears to be getting delivered there.

If you've changed your primary email address and are no longer using Hotmail, you may be thinking of permanently deleting a hotmail.com email address. In this article, we provide an easy-to-follow instruction that will help you along the way.

Hotmail.com email addresses are owned by Microsoft, so your Hotmail account is a part of your Microsoft account. This means that to delete a Hotmail.com email address, you'll have to delete your Microsoft 365 account that is associated with this address.

After you request to close your account, Microsoft will not delete it right away. Your account will be deactivated first and you will have 30 or 60 days (depending on your choice) to re-open it in case you change your mind. This helps prevent fraudulent activity and protect your account.

We recommend saving old emails into another online account because this will make your Hotmail archive easily accessible. Keeping an archive of your old email online is also safer than storing it on a hard drive.

VaultMe can migrate your Hotmail emails into almost any email provider's inbox (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and others). It can also transfer your OneDrive files, contacts, and calendars to another account.

You should make sure that none of your online accounts are linked to the unwanted Hotmail address before you delete the account. You will have to go through all services associated with the old hotmail.com email address one by one and replace the address there.

Your account will continue to receive emails during the 30 or 60-day waiting period, even if you don't sign in to it. You can use this period to notify people in your contact list that your Hotmail address is no longer in use and will be deleted soon. To do that, you can send a batch email or you can create an automatic reply. Temporarily setting up automatic replies in Hotmail before account deletion

All data associated with your Hotmail / Microsoft 365 account will be removed. You will not be able to use any Microsoft services that are linked to this email address. However, you can avoid losing your email history and your OneDrive files if you migrate them to a different account before requesting cancellation of the account.

Deleted Hotmail accounts are closed permanently and cannot be recovered. We recommend copying your Hotmail emails and OneDrive files to a different account before closing your Hotmail account. This way, once a Hotmail account is closed, your content will be safely stored in a different account.

Keep getting this hotmail issue - can any one help? Addtional issue... i have probably forgotten my NTLWorld email address password as it been years... but i still use it on a number of things such as apple ID etc. I do what it says and enter what i think is the password and it looks like it works... but obviously not!

In this case, I have sent you a private message to best look into this email issue. Please keep an eye out for an envelope at the top right corner of your Forum page. Let me know if you have any issues locating this.
