Sorry for the late notice and during a busy week at that.
I have a "spare" 998 slot due to one of my guest speakers being tied
up with her real job so I am going to talk about a somewhat unrelated
topic of writing extensions to R in compiled code. In the past this
was somewhat awkward and required a pretty deep knowledge of C.
Recent work by Romain Francois and Dirk Eddelbuettel on the Rcpp
package, which provides C++ wrappers for R objects, makes this
considerably easier. I will use Dirk's slides from a recent
presentation at UCLA and at the Los Angeles R Users Group but add some
perspectives of my own. The development version of lme4 uses this
technology and we are also developing a version of the Matrix package
using this.
All are welcome to attend at 11:00 in room 1210 Medical Sciences
Center, 1300 University.
Again, I apologize for the late notice. If there is sufficient
interest I could give such a talk again at a more convenient time.
