Hi All,

Today and tomorrow B&H is selling the G15 for $300.  Damn nice camera for $300.

I would personally get the S110 over the G15 for the portability, but they are both great little cameras

Also, ran across this article and it is a good read

http://www.takebetterphotos.com.au/phones-v-dslrs-v-film.html

I was surprised how little I liked film and how good the iphone and lumia are, yet how horrible they are at the same time.  Also, I was surprised that the camera lenses were not that different in the center.  I was not totally clear on the methodology of the jpeg creation, it seemed like it was in camera, but I am not sure.  That would be interesting to me, which is better a camera with a dedicated algorithm or Lightroom 5 at making a jpeg.  I would bet on Lightroom since it is updated all of the time and has loads of horsepower, but I don't know.

Enjoy,

John

Interesting read, a few of my observations...

I wish they would have thrown in a 7D or 70D while they were at it since they threw in the D800

The Nikon D800 is ... wow. I take back any previous comments I have ever made about huge megapixel DSLRs as unnecessary, because that is a lot of detail and nice results.

Same thing goes for the Nokia 1020, I thought that 41 megapixels was a total gimmick, but the results are pretty impressive, even though there is some detail loss due to "low dynamic range".

The iPhone camera did better than I thought it would, but full crops really show it's limitations. In  the full image crops I kind of like the color of the iPhone versions better.
