Hi folks, wanted to mention a new blog post on the recent release of the Mid-Atlantic Ocean Data Portal.  Some exciting technologies behind it and one our best 2D-based map implementations with Madrona to date.  Cheers to the project partners on a successful release with the more interesting design and scenario planning features yet to come.

You can learn more about our software stack choices for this particular project and the reasoning behind them at http://ecotrust.github.com/marco-portal/technology.html.  It includes the usual suspects of Madrona, Django, PostGIS, and JQuery and adds in a unique mix of OpenLayers, Bootstrap, Knockout JS, ArcGIS, Arc2Earth, Tilemill, Tilestache, and more.  Look for some of the GeoJSON-driven client-side features developed for this project to become reusable widgets in Madrona core in the near future.

Cheers, Tim
