The Mad Hatter, Saturday, August 23, Warren, VT!

Hat sign-in 9 to 10 am, teams selections from "the hats" at 10 am, and play begins 10:30 am.

Benefiting:  PEOPLE'S HEALTH AND WELLNESS CLINIC

Dan Barlow, executive director for PHWCVT says: "For 14 years, the Mad Hatter Tournament has been an incredible partner to the People’s Health & Wellness Clinic, raising more than $20,000 to support free healthcare for Vermonters who have nowhere else to turn. Your support helps us care for people without insurance — neighbors living with chronic illness, pain, or mental health challenges who often fall through the cracks of the healthcare system. The need for our services is growing, and so are the challenges — from housing and food insecurity to uncertainty around public health funding. But thanks to this generous and spirited community, we’re able to keep showing up, delivering compassionate care, and fighting for health equity in Vermont. From all of us at PHWC: thank you for playing with purpose. You are making a real and lasting difference."

Tournament registration is going well with 1/3 of the players WMP and enough to field four teams! But on August 15 we need to decide whether we can order two extra shirt colors and make the jump to six teams. If we don't reach critical mass by August 15, we'll have to cap the tourney at no more than four teams. Our ultimate goal is to maximize our benefit to People's Health and Wellness Clinic.  Help us reach critical mass by August 15 so we can make the jump to six teams!

In other words, sign up now and save $5 so we can add your friends later!

We hope to attract players from across Vermont and New England, so please pass this email along to others that may be interested.

The Mad Hatter Rule:

With a wide diversity of abilities on each team, to encourage fun and inclusivity on the playing field rather than win at all costs, we'll play with the Mad Hatter Rule:

  • An all-touch possession ending in a score can be counted as two points, if the defensive team acknowledges the all-touch score.  A contested all-touch score is just one point.

A spirit disc for each team:
Each team will get a Mad River disc to give away at the end of the tournament.  The recipient of the spirit disc, either on your own team or another team, is your team's choosing; perhaps most improved playing or best spirit-of-the-game.  Talk about it, have a vote, and let us know who won the spirit disc for your team and why.  If they're willing, we'd like to acknowledge them at the end of the tournament.

T-Shirts:  Four to six colors with bi-colored print in the color of the team you're drafted to, enough for 4 or 6 teams!

In order to maximize our benefit to People's Health and Wellness Clinic, we're hoping to have most players register for the tournament by August 15. Our goal is to have enough players for six teams or six different shirt colors, but it will be helpful to know our numbers before we order the printing of additional shirts on August 16. The more players we have, the more money goes to the People's Health and Wellness Clinic.

Afternoon BBQ:

Dan Barlow and a couple board members of People's Health and Wellness Clinic will be grilling and selling veggie and beef burgers, sausages, chips, sodas, and water with proceeds benefiting PHWC!  So you can continue to help PHWC by purchasing some food near the end of the tournament!

The Mad Hatter, Saturday, August 23, Warren, VT!

Currently we have solid numbers for 4 teams playing 5MMP to 2WMP!  And we have space for a few additional players on each team.  Although it's looking likely we may cap the number of players at 4 teams, we'd also love to make the jump to 6 teams.  If you definitely want to play in this year's Mad Hatter and have friends who want to play as well, we strongly encourage you and your friends to sign up this week!  Not only does the price go up to $30 per player after this Friday, 8/15, we will also be deciding whether to order two more shirt colors to make 6 teams in the hope of increasing our benefit to People's Health and Wellness Clinic.  Sign up now so we can make the jump to 6 teams!

Although Mad River Disc has decided to cap the number of players at 4 teams, registration remains open for female-matching players, mixed packaged players, and even mixed unpackaged players as long as each player mentions the other in their comments.  In other words, you don't necessarily have to play on the same team as the player you also want to play at Saturday's Mad Hatter!  And although we've started a very short waiting list for male-matching players, there's a good chance we'll be able to open a spot for you at the Mad Hatter by this Friday.  If you sign up, just make sure to check your email on Friday to see if you're in!

The weather this Saturday is looking absolutely perfect for a day of ultimate at the Mad Hatter!
