In AAProDC this is MIA. Now the fastest way to get this information appears to be to click the arrow on the left of the window to open the pages pane. Not as fast as the info being displayed alongside the page dimension information.

Yes and this feature takes up valuable space in the Toolbar - which is now at a premium given the enlarged size of the icons (to try and make a single UI design work for both touch and mouse - sigh).

The old functionality of displaying current and total number of pages in status bar was better - and its odd since the size of the document pages *is* still displayed there - they just removed the current page / total number of pages - sigh. #GoingBackwards

Agreed - the new version IS TERRIBLE.
I want to know which page number I am on
I want to know how many page numbers there are.
Imagine for a moment is a book, magazine, newspaper, anything else
had NO PAGE NUMBERS - rediculous.

I chose to disable the new experience. The new experience was awful, so bulky, hard to naviagate and made no sense. Why would you get rid of the number of pages etc? Hopefully if enough people ditch the 'new and improved' it will send a message that this update is terrible and whoever approved it should reconsider.

I just disabled it. Thank you all. Adobe sent a question as to why I was disabling, and I told them it was about those page numbers. I was wondering why on one computer I was seeing the new version and on another I was seeing the old version. When my IT guy set these up we were struggling with subscription for the Adobe account in general.

Thank you!!!! i use the page number/count everytime I use acrobat. I'm glad there is a way to make it re-appear! Won't be using the new UI, spent a lot of time looking for something they took out, not sure why???!

Ahhhh.
Too bad they think the new version is actually good.
Now, if they had split screens so then I can view several parts at the same time.
This is especially useful when you're reading something technical and gotta flip

Agreed the "new experience" is a step backward! Why does a "new experience" (software companies are really wearing this phrase out) more often than not make an application harder to use or, at the very least more time need to use the application.

Right-click on the Quick Tools bar and hover-over/highlight "Show Page display Tools" then left-click on "Show All Page Display Tools". You should now see the familiar (ie - page X / pages) displayed on the toolbar.

The problem should not occur period, and if it is an issue that can't be fixed, it should automatically turn it off or provide the option to turn it off. This "work around" is not a fix. Adobe should be actually fixing it.

I just signed on to my CC subscription with my Macbook Pro running OSX Catalina (10.15.7) and updating the PDF file's metadata only using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (2020) and attempting to save it from that machine ALSO throws the same "A number is out of range" error.

If you are using a Mac I suggest you to use Preview instead of Adobe. This seemed to solve the issue for me and I was able to save the highlights, texts and modifications I made to the PDF. When I opened the edited file back on Adobe, it seemed to work without any issues. I know it's not a real solution, but at least that will help you to edit and save anything important you need. But if you are stuck with many modifications that you already did on Adobe, then you are pretty much screwed because there doesn't seem to be a solution anywhere on this forum.

I also had this issue. I exported to Power Point and was able to print. The formatting stayed intact for the most part and was workable for my project. This solution does not leave perfect formatting so this problem still needs a real solution.

Print icon. The "all" radio button is selected. The preview image tells me I'm looking at "Page 1 of 2." But.... "The document could not be printed. There were no pages selected to print." Well, except for that "all" button that's apparently purely cosmetic.

I was able to export to individual images(TIF) then recombined in Acrobat...totally unnecessary waste of time and exprimentation , and for what Adobe charges in subscription fees, they should have had enough help to fix this bug a year ago.

I am experiencing the same problem, and have tried save, save as and print to PDF and print to a paper documen. The "a number is out of range" error occurs each time. Agree with all criticism here on the thread. This is a PDF document from a client that I must sign and complete before sending on to another party for processing.

I believe they are using a MAC to complete the application form before sending it on to me. I am using a PC with Windows 10 Pro 64 bit and Acrobat Pro DC latest version. I have found problems in the past with documents generated on a MAC and viewed or modified on PC. So much for the portability advantage...

Finally able to export to multiple TIFF files and then combine into a new PDF and saved. I first tried all other exports (including postrscript recommended by another user) save as and printing to a PDF and to a paper document for scanning, with an error each time. We should not have to do this with a defect that has been known for over a year...at least someone else may save time by doing this.

What worked for me was instead of trying to save the document after I made the changes, I just printed the document as an adobe document and then saved that printed document as the revised version. The changes I made were printed in the new document.

We are having this issue as well. However it is after OCRing and Bates labeling a file in Nitro Pro, if it is opened in Adobe Reader it will say there are pages out of range and there will be blank pages throughout. However the blank pages are still Bates labeled.

So here we are, there is a blatant bug hanging around Acrobat; symptoms are this stupid message no one @Adobe understands. It seems to occur when we have cross-platforms savings. What is out of range here? Adobe, please? At my office, a big school, several administrative documents must be signed in Acrobat and some of them get this error and the whole process is completely broken.

Let's go Adobe.... I am also hving this problem. I'm on Windows on my work pc (large company) and only have Adobe Acrobat Reader. Someone sent me a COMPLETED form from a mac and I can't save it. She doesn't know how to send it to me in any other way. It says number out of range. The fix shows to do post-script but there is no post-script option. HOW can I save this document??????

I am having the same problem in 2022. Obviously Adobe does nothing to fix their problems. I have filled out the same govt form 5 times now....aint doing it anymore. I just need it to fu*king save the thing so I can move on with my life.

Having same issue on Mac ios system. using Adobe on a trial basis. Will not be purchasing as this issue seems to be lingering for years. Assuming there is a different pdf reader/editor specifically for the Mac ios system available which is much easier to use. I have always like adobe, but this is rediculous when you have to pay for use.

You could always put the numbered content pages in a separate document where the page numbers matched. Then place any "un-numbered" pages in reference documents. So if the table of contents is in the first 17 pages place it in a T.O.C. document. Then have a content document where page 1 is the first page, then an index document where you could look up page numbers and find them correctly in the content. Splitting and merging PDF files is quite easy with PDF Split and Merge (imagine that)

Download (free) Pdf Architect,go to and put in the amout of pages that your reader is off in the beginning of the document. Do it so that your pages now have the right numbers. Let's say that my first page is page 13. I put in 12 blank pages at the beginning of the document.

Download your file now with the extra pages in the beginning of your document. Open the document in adobe reader. Press print. Select the pdf-Creator printer and select to print page from the first real page (that is not the extra blank page that you have put in). In my document that would be from page 13.

Using jPDF Tweak, you can edit the page numbers and other metadata for PDFs very easily. You just have to download the program (it's free) and pick the file to use. For other helpful things (that I haven't used yet) I suggest checking out the manual

This is a problem in digital editions because when you tell Acrobat to go to a page, it goes to the actual page, not the numbered page. This accounts for you entering 68 and it taking you to the page numbered 51. I think you'll find there are 17 pages of preliminaries with a different numbering system.

Basically, i can open the PDF, fill the fields, save the document but when i reopen the document afterward, the content has disapeared. If i look at the same PDF with notepad, i can see the values next to the field but the values are not visible anymore in the reader.

Your form does not appear to be available on Ge.TT, so I can't test. I suspect that your form IS Reader Enabled, but that the use of viewers other than Acrobat or Adobe Reader is adversely affecting the data.

Thanks for your quick reply. I (should) have the reader rights assigned. This is what i can see when i look at the form property in the reader (file -> properties -> tab security) this is why i do not understand why the content is saved (i can see the values in notepad when i open the PDF with it) but not with the reader.

Is the form being opened in an Apple Mac environment OR in Windows? If it is Mac OS, then there is a potential that the form is actually being opened in Apple Preview program and NOT in Adobe Reader for Mac. In this case, the form is opened and the user can type in data, but then the returned form is opened in Acrobat the fields appear empty, even though the data is there.
