To provide the most secure level of encryption to our users, we removed support of Transport Layer Security (TLS) versions 1.0 and 1.1 from our web services in October 2020. This includes our Management Console and our web-based API.

TeamViewer Premium Full Version offers more features than the standard version. Additional features dedicated for advanced security, better device support, and support mobile remote connections. The program uses AES (256-bit) and RSA private/public key exchange (2048-bit) session encryption technology to encrypt the traffic between the local client and the remote host machine. This advanced encryption technology helps you minimize the bad things that might happen when you make a remote connection.

The Dameware Remote Everywhere system is designed for in-house support teams. The package offers a basic Help Desk ticketing system that includes a user portal for the creation of a ticket and administrator screens to define ticket routing and progress.

Just like Dameware, the TeamViewer system mediates connections through its cloud servers. The TeamViewer system uses a proprietary protocol, which is based on VNC. This system also uses AES-256 for connection security.

Ad-hoc sessions have similar mechanisms between the two systems. In both cases, the remote user needs to download an agent. However, the activation mechanism is slightly different between the Dameware Remote Everywhere system and the TeamViewer Remote Support service. With Dameware, the technician gives the user a support code to enter into the screen to start the session. With TeamViewer, the user generates an invitation code in the application and gives that to the technician. The technician then enters that code into the console to get access to the remote computer.

While both Dameware and TeamViewer include a chat facility that offers both video and text chat, with TeamViewer, this is intended for use by team members when discussing an issue. With Dameware, the chat is integrated into the user session for communication with the end user. TeamViewer has that in-session chat option within its mobile app, which provides a text chat window.

Both of these systems improve supervision through session recording, which enables managers to keep technicians honest. Both also provide automated session logging for timesheet generation and both include compliance reporting.

The number of sessions listed for each license refers to the number of connections that can be open at any one time. So, for example, with one Multi-User license, you can set up accounts for 15 technicians, but only one at a time can be connected to a remote device.

The pricing of both systems relies on the number of sessions that you expect to have open at any one time. So, a busy Help Desk or managed service provider will soon rack up a big bill with either system by ensuring that the business has enough licenses to support its users.

In light of mounting allegations that TeamViewer has been hacked, and that criminals are somehow gaining unauthorized access to TeamView-enabled workstations, we would like to block TeamViewer altogether.

The TeamViewer software makes connections to our master servers located around the world. These servers use a number of different IP address ranges, which are also frequently changing. As such, we are unable to provide a list of our server IPs. However, all of our IP addresses have PTR records that resolve to *.teamviewer.com. You can use this to restrict the destination IP addresses that you allow through your firewall or proxy server.

TeamViewer client using port 80 for the outbound connection, it is difficult to block using port basis. So, because TeamViewer client must be connected first to the TeamViewer server, we can use another aproach, that is blocking every dns request for the *.teamviewer.com and/or *.dyngate.com.

VNC was originally developed for use on Unix systems but has now expanded to include a client and server version for virtually all popular computing platforms. This makes cross-platform remote control a simple matter since a VNC client running on a PC can easily connect to a VNC server running on a Mac, for example. Of course, the devil is in the details, and not all VNC implementations are 100% compatible. Mac to Mac sessions are probably going to be pretty reliable due to the same version of VNC code being used on both sides of the connection. PC or Linux to Mac connections have been known to occasionally exhibit buggy behavior but in most cases, you will have no trouble getting it to work if your software is up to date.
