On the shelves from today (22nd October 2009), the latest edition of Record Collector magazine (which is also celebrating it’s 30th Anniversary with this issue) has a number of features relating to Madness. There’s a 6 page article, including an interview with five of the seven band members (Messrs Foreman and Bedford were missing) - said interview doesn’t totally follow the same old formula either, so is definitely worth a read.

UK ska heroes Madness plan to release an expanded edition of their debut album to mark its 30th anniversary. One Step Beyond will be reissued on October 26th, containing a host of extras not found on the original record. The new version will compromise two discs, with the first holding the original tracks and the band's music videos.

Among the including promo videos is One Step Beyond, My Girl, Bed And Breakfast Man and Night Boat To Cairo. On the second will be live songs, a John Peel session and several B-sides such as Stepping Into Line, Mistakes and Nutty Theme.

Madness will also tour the UK later this year, playing 17 shows in December. Starting on December 1st at Bournemouth's Intl Centre, the band will play in the cities across the country, including Sheffield, Manchester, Belfast and Brighton. The tour will culminate with a performance at the Edinburgh Hogmanay on New Year's Eve.

4. Total Madness Competition Postal Update
===========================================================

Just a quick update regarding the Total Madness CD/DVD competition. The winners will be receiving their copies within the next few days. There has been a slight hold-up in receiving the respective copies due to the current postal problems in the UK. We now have these in our possession and they will be sent out this weekend.

5. Chris Foreman: The Mad Hatter
===========================================================

This bizarre story appeared in Dunstable Today following former Luton Town football manager Mike Newell being sacked by League Two strugglers Grimsby Town after a poor start to the season.

"The manager of Madness guitarist Chris Foreman was approached by the Hatters to get the musician – with a penchant for boaters – to wear a club hat on stage for their new tour. However, Foreman supports another team and the idea progressed no further.

Luton director Stephen Browne said: "A fan had written in. It was a sensible suggestion and would have been a bit of publicity but it didn't come to anything. He does have a team so therefore so if he was going to do it it would have been something from the team he supports. If you get emails and people have ideas you do like to try and act on them."
