Community Meeting

Thank you for Joining Us on Google Hangouts or at Bendyworks

On Tuesday, 12 August 2014, at 11:30am, Madisonium held its semi-monthly community meeting (agenda) at Bendyworks and via Google Hangouts. These are small get-togethers meant to inform our community about upcoming and past events. This a quick summary of what happen and a big thanks to everyone who participated.

Attendance
This meeting was attended by:

  • Ross Larson, Smart Social Media
  • Catherine Garcia, Field59
  • Derek Gebler, Field59
  • Preston Austin, Murfie
  • Craig Kettleson, Madison Region Economic Partnership
  • Tom Willis, Dell
  • Greg Hudson, Fetch Rewards
  • Alnisa Allgood, Nonprofit Tech (Madisonium)

Community Round Table
To save we skipped over the community roundtable, which is just updates on projects Madisonium is currently working on or affiliated with, including— City of Madison's Digital Technology Committee, Start-up Block, Madi, Made of Madison, and the Entrepreneur Exchange Program.

Community Meeting Share
The majority of the meeting was spent on to community shares: Preston Austin discussing the Forward Technology Festival and Catherine Garcia & Derek Gebler discussing Field59.

Preston Austin, Forward Technology Festival
Preston provide a great, rapid overview of the history of Forward Technology Festival and how they've gotten to where they are today. Sorry you missed it, I can't do it justice in notes, but it was good.

He then started talking about Forward Technology Festival's goal to act as an umbrella for events and provide a number of avenues for individuals and organizations to create compelling and engaging content and activities for the festival, and their ongoing efforts for diversification.

He highlighted some of the wonderful opportunities for participation in this year's efforts, including the HealthTech Hobnob, FEEDing the Entrepreneurial Spirit. the Wisconsin Innovation Awards, and the Doyenne Group 5x5x5. These activities coupled with new takes on old staples, such as Barcamp Unplugged, the Forward Technology Conference, and the Startup Showcase should make this year way more accessible and a great deal more fun to participate in for a much wider variety of participants.

Derek Gebler & Catherine Garcia, Field59
Field59 is BIMVid's new efforts to focus on the growing space of live streaming, video on demand, and mobile publishing as it can be used to connect communities and enhance participation. While BIMVid works primarily with broadcasters, Field59 targets everyone else. They provide live streaming and video on demand services for events, training, education, gaming, and content syndication.

They've worked with a number of live events such as conferences, festivals, eSports, and music events. They have a great and easy-to-use platform, and have already worked with organizations such as: Snow*Mobile, Fresco Opera, Wisconsin Film Festival, Accelerate Madison, and the Forward Technology Festival.

You can download their presentation here.

Upcoming Events
We rapidly reviewed some upcoming events, such as YumYum Fest, the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner, and Madison Nonprofit Day (seeagenda for full listing). Then allowed for questions to Preston, Catherine, and Derek to continue until we had to close.

Other Items of Note
Greg, Craig, Tom and Ross also shared interesting information about their efforts to participate in and or create additional resources, events, and activities to the Madison Technology scene, the expansion of the technology scene from just web tech to include: food & agriculture, health, and bio technology.

Thanks to You
Thanks again to everyone who participated, especially those who shared— Preston, Catherine, and Derek. For anyone who wishes to contribute to the next Madisonium Community Meeting to talk about your event, product, company, or community issue related to Madison's tech community, please let us know.
