Hi everyone!

I'll be sunsetting all of the Madisonium-related google group mailing lists* in favor of MailChimp. If you would like to continue to hear about Madisonium stuff (and I hope you do!!), please sign up for the new mailing list here: http://eepurl.com/v4t1P I'm intending to shut down these groups in mid-November.

Also, I just announced—on that list—our upcoming meeting, which is next Tuesday. It will feature a short presentation by Lucas Dailey of Wellbe. See that announcement here: http://eepurl.com/5aBu5

Thanks!
Brad

* Except the board member group, so we can more easily plan any sort of board activities.

Hey Brad-

Not that it happens frequently, but my thoughts is that it would be nice to keep at least one Google Group open so that people could talk to each other. With MailChimp you pretty much have an announcement ONLY system. If you allow replies, they only come to the account admin, not everyone.

Providing an option where people can communicate and connect with each other, I think is a nice aspect of Madisonium, even if we haven't put the effort in, as of yet, to encourage conversations. Though if you really want to see it go, maybe we should work on building a Google+ Page / Community for that instead.

Alnisa

Hey Alnisa (and everyone),

I specifically chose the word "intending" because I didn't want to just make it happen without discussion. I also chose "sunsetting" to indicate that there was some time to figure out what to do next, rather than just closing them.

So... thank you for taking the opportunity to discuss, Alnisa!

There has been very little discussion on these lists, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to just make them go away in favor of... something else (whatever that might be).

You suggest that using a Google+ Community page is a possible alternative. I've created a Community page for Madisonium on G+, and I'd like to see how it gets used by our community. I actually created it specifically to better organize the hangouts we do, but we can certainly try out having asynchronous discussions there, too.

I'll hold off on closing the mailing lists until we can figure out how we want to communicate.

Cheers!
Brad

I meant to also say a +1 for the google/email group. I think there is a sense of importance with email, and as a sender there is greater certainty that people will get my message. Posting on a community group is fine, but even with alerts it doesn't feel as direct.

But I'll be fine with whatever.

It's true. There has been little discussion on the list. I think things can be done about that, but mostly I recall, when people had questions about Madisonium the list was the first and easiest place for them to ask them. I think, ultimately, I'd like a Google+ community page and a list, but like Lucas would be fine with just one.

If we're going to be focusing on strengthening and building the community, it is easier to focus on just one, rather than both.

Alnisa
