Hey, my work issued us all Ipads, and would really like if we did some
development. I've never made an IOS app in my life, and in fact have
never owned a mac computer (though I have owned Ipods for awhile). I
have done a little development for android, though java kind of
sucks. I mostly do embedded coding in C and a decent amount of VB for
windows apps and testing things and such. I'd like to visit some time
during a meeting to see exactly what developing for IOS is all about,
how easy it is, what type of equipment I need to delve into it (like
mac computer specs), and etc. Hopefully I will be able to make it to
the Monday meeting to see what its all about.

Also, kind of wish it was still at sector 67 as I go there anyways :-)

We will occasionally be at sector67, check the previous messages for an idea of when.

As far as equipment, you must work with an intel based Mac. Which means anything you by new. If buying used and it has anything like G5/G4/G3 in the name or on the case, it won't work. You could get in cheap with a Mac Mini for around $699 new, but I recommend going to the MacBook Pro 13" if you can. Little more horsepower + portable is a win in my books.

If you do embedded C, then you might be able to migrate to Obj-C without too much trouble. It is based on C and uses a lot of C coming out of the NeXT SmallTalk code.

Hello! If you do C you're well on your way! The only system
requirement is a Mac with an Intel processor. The very first
generation of any of the Intels (MacBook, MacBook Pro, etc) can do it.
Download Xcode and swing by some time and we'll show you the ropes. :)
