Hi all,

I figured I should introduce myself here as I recently joined the group. (stands up) "Hi, my name is Craig and I'd like to write software for the iPhone." (sheepishly sits back down).

I've been doing embedded systems consulting (mostly embedded firmware) for many years but I used to do some Mac programming back in the dark ages (e.g. 1980's, 1990's) before and after NeXT re-acquired Apple ;-). Since I have a lull in embedded work (most clients are manufacturers or make products for manufacturers) I thought I'd reinvestigate Mac and iPhone programming. I was an Apple developer back when "Rhapsody" first came out and therefore have lots of (ancient) developer materials that are likely destined for the recycle bin. I see that there are quite a few resources for Mac/iPhone development out there so I was wondering if folks could comment on which resources they found particularly helpful and which were not so helpful. Here's what I've found so far:

- Pragmatic Programmer's roadmap for iPhone development: <http://www.pragprog.com/roadmaps/iphone-and-mac-os-x>

- Video podcast series from Stanford (18+ episodes, free): iPhone Application Programming (I'm currently working my way through this class)

- "screencast" series by Bill Dudney & Pragmatic Programmers ($5/episode): Writing Your First iPhone Application (other series include Coding in Objective-C 2.0 and Becoming Productive in Xcode)

Learn Cocoa series from Cocoa Dev Central

- "Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X" Third Edition, Aaron Hillegas, 2008 (haven't made it real far in this yet)

Thanks,

Craig

I am on the same path and here is what I have found and am planning...

I started by reading _Programming in Objective-C 2.0_ which was a good
read.

Then I watched two of the Prag Prog screencasts (reviews here):

http://www.wisdomandwonder.com/article/3584/a-brief-review-of-pragprogs-coding-in-objective-c-2-0-screencasts

http://www.wisdomandwonder.com/article/3613/a-brief-review-of-pragprogs-becoming-productive-in-xcode-screencasts

I skipped the PragProg iPhone screencasts as they assume that you are
already familiar with the API.

Next I will watch the Stanford videos.

Finally, I have my eye on these 3 books:

_Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK_

_iPhone Developer’s Cookbook: Building Applications with the iPhone
SDK_

_ Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X_

I sent around a list of resources a while ago, but I sum up many of
them in this post:
