Attention Garden Supporters! We are in desperate need of some strong
backs to volunteer for a couple of hours on Friday 2/5!

We have a difficult situation here with the garden. As you know we
have been getting a lot of rain lately. The future site of the
Madison-Avanti garden has some serious drainage issues and currently
is basically a mud pit (see photos below). We have had some
volunteers hard at work trying to trouble shoot the next steps here in
the last 48 hours or so and this is what we know:

1) Michael Miltimore has been working hard to get the fence posts set
for the garden and they look great - they just need to be cemented in
1) The ground needs re-grading to improve the drainage situation -
fortunately we have a connection to some professionals who can help us
with this through donation of their time, equipment and expertise
2) Before these professionals can help us with their heavy
equipment they need the posts to be set in concrete
3) If these things don't come together by Saturday, our work party
may not be such a party :-( We will be really limited in what we can
do before we address this drainage issue.

This is a call for volunteers! We need a few strong backs to help for
a couple of hours to get these fence posts cemented in tomorrow
(Friday 2/5 afternoon). If there is any chance you can spare a couple
of hours on Friday afternoon to help us, please let me know through
email or by phone 464-4507 ASAP! Thanks so much for your
consideration and flexibility!

We have an amazing community. I am so touched and inspired by
everything that you all are doing to get our Madison-Avanti garden
growing.

Michael and Katya Miltimore have been working incredibly hard to get
our fence built by acquiring donated and discounted materials, sharing
Michael’s construction skills and time, and calling his colleagues in
to help us fix the drainage issue. So when he called last night with
a total change in plans that required a last minute pre-work party
event this afternoon I didn’t want to let him down. I called on you
all to help out and the response was just amazing!! In a matter of
hours we were able to round up six wonderful people and wheelbarrows
to get the job done. Thank you Adam, Bonnie, Brigid, Nathan, Tim, and
Tyler for your hard work and willingness to rearrange your schedules
at the last minute to help the cause! It is amazing what you all
accomplished!

It was an exciting and productive day in the garden and an extra cool
attraction was the cement mixer truck - much thanks to Holroyd! Many
of the kids got a little mini field trip out to the playground to have
a look.

We are now really ready for the work party tomorrow! Bring your work
gloves, boots, (rakes, shovels, and wheelbarrows if you have them) and
some clothes you don’t mind getting muddy. We will have snacks and
lunch. I am hoping for a sunny day filled with hard work, good times
and new friendships! Thanks again for all you have done and are doing
to make this a success! Call me on my cell phone 206-794-2955 if you
have any questions. See you there….

Katie
