The conference will be investigating the roles, responsibilities and challenges of NGOs, INGOs, donor agencies and diplomatic missions in Nepal for developing Madhesh. Both the experts and NGOs/INGOs representatives will be brought together to extensively investigate the following areas in the context of Madhesh:

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the conference are:
  • to discuss the roles that NGOs/INGOs/donor agencies can play for developing Madhesh
  • to analyse the present condition of Madhesh and to recognise the areas where NGOs/INGOs/donor agencies have greater responsibilities
  • to find out what is working and what is not, and why
  • to analyse the current strategy of NGOs/INGOs/donor agencies
  • to find out the strategy through which NGOs/INGOs can make a greater impact
  • to analyse, appreciate and find ways to improve the working methodologies of NGOs/INGOs/donor agencies
  • to discuss the challenges that NGOs/INGOs face in Madhesh, and ways to deal with them
  • to increase the interaction between NGOs/INGOs and experts community for a greater feedback
  • to facilitate a greater collaboration among NGOs/INGOs

Venue: UNDP Centre for Constitutional Dialogue, Buddhanagar, Kathmandu, Nepal

On the first day, several in-depth papers from experts and intellectuals will be presented, discussing the roles, responsibilities and strategies of NGOs/INGOs, donor agencies and diplomatic missions in Nepal in creating a prosperous Madhesh. On the second day, NGOs/INGOs will be presenting their perspective on their roles, contributions, challenges and plans in Madhesh. They will be also sharing their field experiences from both the successful and not-so-successful projects in Madhesh. At the end, a panel discussion will be held, including both the experts and the representatives from NGOs/INGOs into the panel, which will place all the discussions into a wider perspective and conclude the findings.


CALL FOR PAPERS

Experts/Intellectuals

The experts are requested to submit a full-length research paper focusing on the work of NGOs/INGOs in Madhesh in any of, but not limited to, the areas mentioned above. The paper should be investigative and well-researched with reliable data, analysis and references. The paper can be submitted in .doc or latex format. The papers will be published in the conference proceedings. On the day of the conference, the experts are required to present their papers using slides in .ppt or .pdf format. A time slot of 20 minutes – 40 minutes will be made available depending upon the depth and importance of the paper. All the experts will be required to submit their presentation slides too, by a stipulated deadline (by November 1st, 2011).

NGOs/INGOs/Donor Agencies

The NGOs/INGOs are not required to submit a research paper. Only a brief introduction of the NGO/INGO is required during the registration, which will be included in the conference proceedings.

A number of selected NGOs/INGOs will be making presentations in an allocated time-slot of 10-15 minutes for each NGO/INGO. The presentation should be in the form of a .pdf or .ppt file format. All the presentation slides will be published on the conference website. Please note that the final presentation should be made available to the session chair on the day of presentation before the beginning of the session, i.e. between 8:00 am to 9:00 am for the morning session and between 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm for the afternoon session.

Due to the possibility of a large number of participating NGOs/INGOs, please note that not all of the NGOs/INGOs will be able to make presentations. The final selection shall be made by the conference organising committee, consulting the advisory board.

Conference Proceeding and Book

The conference proceeding will contain all the expert papers and introductions of all the participating NGOs/INGOs. After the conference, a book will be published for a wider global circulation, including all the research articles, and adding introduction and conclusion sections summarising the conference outcomes.
