I love autumn: the leaves turning color, the chilled breeze, and that
smell... of something, um, fresh or old. I'm not sure. Maybe the it is
the mixed scent of senescing leaves? Yes, autumn is wonderful and we
experienced it last month. But right now, in my neighborhood in San
Francisco, it is summer, with hot, sunny days and still, warm nights.
I'm sure the surrounding hills - and reservoirs - are ready for rain,
but I am enjoying these last chances to make some vitamin D.
Things are busy here at MWM, where I'm making some new designs and
gearing up for holiday shows. Apologies to all of you not quite ready
to think about the winter holidays (or winter at all), but I do need
to mention some upcoming deadlines for holiday shopping in this
newsletter.

1. Breast Cancer Awareness Month - estrogen jewelry donation
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I am proud to be
donating 50% of the October proceeds from my estrogen jewelry to
WomenCARE, a local organization that educates, supports, and empowers
women with cancer. While a college student at UC Santa Cruz, I
volunteered by helping their clients find research articles at the
campus science library. The women I interacted with felt so much more
empowered and received more attention from their doctors when informed
by primary research. WomenCARE offers many services for women with
cancer - for free. You can visit them here:

2. Ordering deadlines for custom jewelry, custom cards, and ethanol glassware
If you would like to order something custom (or something glass) for
the holidays, here are the deadlines to keep in mind:
- custom holiday card deadline 11/10
- ethanol glasses deadline 11/15
- custom amino acid jewelry deadline11/30
Of course, the earlier the better! Also, if you are outside the US,
please make your holiday purchases as early as possible. Some
international orders are suffering ridiculously long delays.
3. flickr photo group
I've started a flickr group for photos of MWM jewelry and other

4. In the pipeline: resveratrol (red wine)
To whet the appetites of the red wine lovers, I thought I'd mention
that I'm currently working on a resveratrol necklace. Resveratrol has
been much touted for its health benefits, and - although the claims
are probably largely just hype - this molecule is a wonderful symbol
for red wine. The necklace includes a dangling red wine drop-shaped
garnet and has a different stylistic feeling than some of my others.
It's going to be a great addition when it's ready. Yes, unfortunately,
it isn't quite ready, but I thought I'd give you a sneak peek with a
picture my sister took while we were wine tasting with my mom in Paso
Robles last weekend.
