Dear Made With Molecules friends and fans,

Spring is here! Yesterday, I spent a perfect day hiking on Mount Tam
in Marin, enjoying the spring flowers and new, green growth under a
cloudless blue sky. Of course, this made me think of the molecules of
color and scent - and what wonderful floating sculptures they would
make. But in the meantime, I have plenty on my plate.

In a little over a week, I'll start a month on Hawaii's big island.
I'll still be able to fill most jewelry orders, but - unless you order
soon - I won't be able to send ethanol glass, onesie, or custom
jewelry orders until I'm back in mid-May. Please see below for
details.

1. ordering dates and deadlines
2. new! DNA and RNA base jewelry
3. new! men's style necklaces
4. now using recycled silver
5. Mother's Day and Graduation gifts
6. giving back
7. Facebook and Twitter
8. call for bay area science artists or artistic scientists
9. upcoming events: Maker Faire

1. ordering dates and deadlines

I will be out of town from April 14 to May 16. I will be shipping
jewelry from there, but won't be able to send some orders. If you'd
like any of the following items before the end of May, please order by
the date indicated.

ethanol glasses: April 8
custom amino acid jewelry: April 10
oxytocin and glucose onesies: April 13
any greeting cards: April 13

If you are concerned about any item arriving on time, please email me.

2. NEW! DNA and RNA base jewelry

Inspired by the "best friends" necklaces of my youth, I'm offering
base pair friendship necklaces. You keep one and give someone to whom
you pair well the other. I'm also offering A, C, G, T, and U base
earrings in any combination you'd like. Because of their size, I only
made the base part of the nucleotides. The charms all attach to the
jewelry via the bond that would usually attach to the sugar in DNA or
RNA molecules.

3. NEW! men's style necklaces
I know men appreciate molecules, too. I also realize that my
collection has been very female-centric. (You see, I'm a girl and I
make things that I want!) After consulting with a few male friends, I
chose a chunky link chain to make a more masculine-styled necklace.
You can see it here:

4. now using recycled silver
Running MWM in the most environmentally and socially responsible way
possible is a big deal to me. So, I am delighted to announce that my
silver molecules are now all made with quality, recycled/reclaimed
sterling silver.

5. Mother's Day and Graduation gifts
If you would like a custom item for Mother's Day or graduation, please
consider ordering these now, since I will be out of town April 14 to
May 16. In the past, serotonin, caffeine, and (surprise!) theobromine/
chocolate jewelry has been the most popular for Mother's Day. If your
mom is a red wine fan, she may appreciate the resveratrol necklace.
Amino acid jewelry is popular for science grads, including jewelry
spelling PHD, DR_name, SCIENTIST, and GENIUS.

6. giving back
Last month I donated >1% of my sales to The Bay Institute: http://www.bay.org
This month >1% of sales will be donated to the Coral Reef Alliance:

7. Facebook and Twitter
MWM is hesitantly entering the new media super highway. Please fan or
follow me, if you so desire, and I will do my best to figure it all
out soon.

8. call for bay area science artists or artistic scientists
We are looking for another artist to join our science communication
project "Science Tarot." A background or interest in chemistry,
geology, and/or physics is a plus. For more information, you can
contact me or see the website below:

9. upcoming events: Maker Faire
Come see me at the Maker Faire in San Mateo on May 30 or 31. I'll have
a booth selling molecule jewelry and showing my other various creative
science communication projects at this huge and infinitely inspiring
DIY county fair.

I hope all of you are able to get out an enjoy the sights and smells
of spring (or fall for my Southern Hemisphere friends)! Aloha!
