Dear Made With Molecule friends and fans,

I think my favorite thing about the holidays is gingerbread. (I mean,
after peace and joy and family and all that, of course.) A spicy,
peppery, dense block of gingerbread and a cup of jasmine green tea is
a direct portal to holiday bliss.

It's been a busy holiday season here at MWM. I'm so exited about all
the molecule gifts being given and received this holiday season -
bringing a bit more science into the holidays and into every day!
It's been so busy that I'm rather late in sending this newsletter. But
there are still some pertinent newsy items, so...

In this newsletter:

1. Holiday Deadlines
2. *new* Menthol Ornament for 2008
3. *new* Resveratrol for Red Wine Necklace
4. My Blog

1. Holiday Deadlines
Good news for the procrastinators and the indecisive! There's one day
left to order via regular shipping (priority mail) price ($6) and have
your orders *probably* arrive at a US destination before 12/15/8.
After this, you can opt for express (overnight) shipping for $20. In
summary:

Dec 19 - regular mail
Dec 21 - express mail (costs extra)

I am truly delighted and honored to have my molecules part of your
holidays and am working very hard to get things made, packaged, and
delivered in time!

2. *new* Menthol Ornament for 2008
Each year I make a different holiday ornament, adding a little more
science (and molecular magic) to the holidays. This year, the molecule
is menthol, the cooling, minty molecule from peppermint. I chose
menthol while thinking about peppermint candy canes and peppermint
lattes, but more recently I've appreciated menthol in the form of
herbal throat lozenges. Oh, the many, merry facets of winter! Menthol
happens to be amazing (I avoided saying "cool" here). It binds to the
receptors that sense cold temperature, making our bodies respond like
it is actually cold. And it's yummy! These have been quite popular,
but I still have few left. See the ornament here:

3. *new* Resveratrol for Red Wine Necklace
It's here! The red wine resveratrol necklace with a hanging garnet
drop is now ready! I've really been enjoying this one. I usually stick
to the serotonin necklace for daily wear, but the festive and elegant
garnet drop on the resveratrol necklace has made it my current
favorite for dinner parties and evening events. See the necklace and
read about resveratrol here:

4. My Blog
Although it's not quite ready for prime-time, my blog, called
"Feynman's Flower," has begun! It will be a showcase for science art
and will also cover science news that catches my attention. (I added a
few entries last month, but became a bit, um, sidetracked this month.)
Feel free to take a look now while its in its infancy, or wait until
its matured a bit.

Happy solstice-centered holidays and New Year! I wish you all much
happiness!
