3. An excuse to work on some coding project that you've had in the back of your head and haven't done yet!
4. A way to win some cool prizes! And POWN your fellow developers and co-workers... :) ( See definition of POWN - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pown&defid=195063 )
Rules:
Rule #1 - "we TALK about the hackaton" - tweet your ideas! tweet your project! tweet your team members! If you want someone to join your team - tweet that as well! Use #MADdotNET --- in fact the first 5 people that tweet that they're entering the hackathon - will get a Pluralsight ( www.pluralsight.com ) 30-day subscription!
Rule #2 - No limits on what technologies or programming languages you want to use ( not just .NET <g> ) -- make a website, make a mobile app, make something both hardware and software, make something we're not expecting! Teams have free reign to self-select their members, come up with quirky names, and choose or change whichever ideas they see fit. Above all, the team element helps get everyone involved in areas they might not think about on a day-to-day basis. Teams can be any number of individuals - from one to many.
Rule #3 - The MADdotNET hackathon starts on the evening of Wed July 11th -- and continues until the evening on Wed July 18th. Show up in the evening on Wed July 18th at Herzing University - show off what you've done - tell us about what you'd still like to get done - and a panel of Judges will rank everyone's projects. As soon as you can on or right after Wed the 11th - send an email to the madd...@googlegroups.com email - letting me know you're in - this will help me gauge how many prizes, etc we will need and also build up excitement for your project!
Rule #4 - WIN cool prizes! WIN a the opportunity to go onto thatConference ( see thatConference.com ) and present your project against other hackathon winners from around the region and get even greater prizes and other cool stuff! And just think of putting "regional hackathon" winner on your resume - sweet! :)
Now, most Hackathons take place over a weekend - you go and can sit for a long time in a room with other smelly developer - sometimes not sleeping at all, sometime crashing on the floor and missing a beautiful weekend - not sure about you - but I'm past that stage of my life. :)
So as usual - MADdotNET tries to do things a little differently... So help us make this a success and - if it works, we'll make it a regular event!
#1 - First Place - An AWSEOME "Telerik Ultimate Collection for .NET"! $1,999 price tag! ( http://www.telerik.com/purchase.aspx )
#2 and #3 - Your choice of more great product licenses ( RedGate, JetBrains etc ) - subscriptions, etc - sure you'll enjoy!
Winners will also be qualified to work more on their project and present it at thatConference in August ( www.thatConference.com ) - where there will be more sweet prizes! AWESOME!
