HI friends,
Last Tuesday's Meeting - At our as-always interesting Club meeting at the apiary this Tuesday evening, we inspected a few hives for vigor and whether they should be combined with others.  We performed newspaper combines for two hives, taking the added boxes from large hives on which Joe had placed a queen excluder several days earlier.  Once again, we had a new beekeeper join - it's fun to have new folks continue to join.

Next month's meeting is coming up fast, partly because we delayed August's meeting once for weather and partly due to the fact that September's first Tuesday is the 1st itself.  The group decided to meet at my husband's and my home, 2524 Chamberlain Ave., Madison, which is on the Near West Side, near UW Hospital.  We don't have hives in town (other than a much-spurned swarm trap) but we have lots of backyard space among our neighboring houses, and room indoors if it's inclement, so we'll meet, rain or shine.

What to bring: We have 8-10 outdoor chairs, but please bring a chair if you have one and can, as well as a dish to passHere's a potluck-planning doc so we know who's bringing what, more or less.  Thanks for filling it out!  We will provide paper plates, napkins, flatware, and cups.

Agenda - Currently, our agenda includes:
- discussing hive management things people should be thinking about this time of year
- the state of everyone's hives
- club program topic ideas for the winter
- possible co-hosting a meeting with Milwaukee bee class or other regional bee groups
- remembering that we each laid out intentions for this year re our beekeeping, how did we do?
- plans for the Midwest Beekeeping Expo January 29-30 in Madison
- other topics

Looking forward to gathering together,
Margaret K

Hello Margaret

First, thank you for the gracious offer of your home and coordination of the event! Love it! And my apologies for not responding earlier - I wasn’t sure if my bees would need me up north. (Also looking forward to homebrew - my son has a brewery in Waukesha!)

I thought I would tee this thought up here but happy to bring it up at the meeting or later as well … I am curious what, if anything, we should do with our winter planning given the predictions of a super El Niño and the effects of that in Wisconsin.

See you Tuesday. Thanks again Margaret!

Hi Margaret,

Thank you for hosting.   I’ll bring a veggie salad 🥗 complement the pizza.

Also. Was wondering if wine or beer would be acceptable as drinks.  Am happy to provide that but wanted to check with you first.

Looking forward to the meeting and getting to know you all on a little more personal level.

Again, thank you for hosting.

Best,
Wayne

Thanks, Wayne!  Yes to wine and beer.  We'll have some of my husband's homebrew, but other beer is welcome, and wine as well.  I'll have glasses.
A salad is perfect.

I look forward to it,
mk

Thanks to all who've filled out the potluck form (it all looks great!), and one final request to others to do it, so we know how many people are likely to come.  If you haven't yet filled it out, please note that I'm still the only person offering to bring a main dish; I would welcome at least one more.

I signed up for a veg but it will be ratatouille which is almost a main dish.

Sorry to pile on this message but I am unable to otherwise send to the group.

I would like to use/ rent the honey extractor but don’t know who to contact . Last year I picked it up near Stoughton.

Is it still available? I would like to use it September 11-13 if possible.

Thanks, Sarah
