Hi Everyone,

I hope you’re all having a great holiday weekend. We’re pushing our July meeting to next week, July 14.

Our plan is to demonstrate and perform mite washes on some hives. This is a critical method for monitoring mite-levels, and July is the time to start if you haven’t already.

Members can practice on club apiary hives and acquire the confidence to perform it at home. If anyone has an alternative method they want to compare, bring it with you and we’ll see how it stacks up (i.e., sugar roll)!

Regards,

Joe

Hi All, due to today's high temperatures, we're postponing our July meeting until Tuesday, July 21.  We'll demonstrate and perform mite washes then.  The forecast is looking more seasonable (low 80s).

I am still planning to visit the apiary after work this evening to graft some queens. Grafting is relatively low-key; I typically use a veil rather than a full suit, and it doesn't take very long.  If anyone would like to see it done, please let me know, and try to be there by 6pm tonight.

Thanks, and try to stay cool!

Joe

FYI, N. Casey Rd is currently posted as closed, but according to the Porter Township website, local access will be maintained, so it is possible to drive through the closure signs.

To avoid the closures, you can approach the apiary from the east on W. Caledonia Rd.  Instead of taking N. Casey Rd south from highway 59, continue east on highway 59 for about a mile, then take N Wallin Rd south.  After about ½ mile, turn right onto W Caledonia Rd, which will take you by the apiary.

Hi All,

Temperatures are going to be very uncomfortable tomorrow, even after 6pm, especially decked out in our bee suits!

I’m guessing some of you will stay home due to the heat, so I’m inclined to postpone.

I’d love to hear what others are thinking.

Joe
