Hi! My name is Trevor Bawden. I am a queen breeder located in Milwaukee WI with 5 years of experience. This year I am grafting from VSH (varroa sensitive hygiene) breeder stock by Olympic Wilderness Apiary and Harbo. The main focus of my queens traits are: overwintering, hygienic behavior, varroa resistance, nosema tolerance, pollen hoarding and brood pattern. My grafts are then locally mated with WI survivor stock. I have queen cells ($15), virgins ($25) mated queens available ($45) for pick up or shipping via overnight express. Both the virgins and mated queens will be marked when you receive them. My mated queens are kept for 21 days after emergence to monitor the brood pattern and confirm her ability to lay and produce quality worker bees. I think these genes could be a great benefit to us all in a step to move WI beekeepers into local/sustainable stock. Please contact me via phone at 414-241-6327 to place an order or if you have any questions for me. This holiday week is a great time to use queen cells to make splits for overwintering.
I have included the contact information for another queen breeder in the SE WI area. Please feel free to reach out to him as well.
Seth Will, Queen Rearer of Gernumbli Gardens (Milwaukee, Jackson and Manitowoc)
Queens of Gernumbli are reared with very specific traits in mind: ability to overwinter in Wisconsin (if it can't survive the cold, we're not interested), prolific brood and wax builders, high propensity to propolize (enhanced colony immunity), mite allogrooming and strong VSH traits. Seth comes from a neuroscience background and maintains a high attention to detail with selecting and working with varied honey bee stock. We have a focus and passion to produce hardy, cold weather bees, locally adapted to beekeepers in Wisconsin and similar climates. Seth currently works with Caucasians, VSH Carnica, Buckfast, Harbo, Pol-line, Russian and Saskatraz. He can be found on facebook at Gernumbli Gardens and contacted via phone: 262-385-3589
