Hi all, I was contacted on FB by a Collin saying he attended a meeting some time ago, and there was someone in sun prairie that kept bees in there yard, and wants to make contact.

Are you that person?

I am setting up my first hives and I am freaking out about everything. I went to a class in February and came away thinking that I knew it all. I have some great books to refer to and my notes. My first concern is how much of a tilt do I put on the hives? One website says 2". One website says 1". It says over tilting is just as bad as under tilting. I want to get this right the first time.

Liz-

You may be overthinking this.  A little tilt so that any water in the hive will drain is fine.

It’s really not anything to worry about. You don’t need to measure. A slight down slope towards the entrance. If it looks like too much slope, it probably is but it won’t hurt unless it’s ready to fall over. I’ve got a few hives that settled and I need to straighten them out a bit but the bees are fine. Take your water bottle and pour a few tablespoons of water on the cover if it “slowly” runs toward the front  , you’re probably ok.

Because I use a screened bottom board I'm not worried about the pitch of the hive.
