Hey group,

In a local McFarland page someone posted looking for help removing bees from their patio door. I’ve talked with her and it sounds like they are in a cavity around the door and are using some holes around the patio door as their entrance. I’ve attached the pictures she sent me of the door and of the bees. I imagine this would have to be a trap out or cutout and didn’t know if anyone in the group handled such removals.

I have her contact info if you’re interested. Just let me know and I can connect you. Again, this is in McFarland.

Thanks

Hi Tony,

These appear to be mason bees, not honey bees.  Adults provision a tunnel and lay eggs in the spring then disappear. The bees develop through the summer but don’t emerge until the following spring.

They are using existing cracks or tunnels, and they don’t do any damage. They are also non-aggressive. My best recommendation is to open the screen to let them out, then seal up all the cracks and holes to prevent them nesting again.

Can you pass this along to them?

Thanks,

Joe
