Yes they are bumbles and harmless. If you can, leave them be. A gyne (a virgin queen) will winter and emerge in the spring to start her own nest somewhere else. Possibly in some duff in an out-of-the-way spot of dirt.

I have been watching them periodically and I think they are bumblebees (if some are identified as large bumblebees bees, I assume the smaller ones in the community are also bumble bees). I can’t figure out where they are nesting.
My address is 3705 Mandimus Ct., Middleton. I’m near pheasant branch rd.
I am not sure what to do about this since I can’t find the nest and they are likely not honey bees.
