Hi,
I am looking for about 1/2 # of beeswax, needed by about June 1, to make a salve for an herbal medicine class.
thanks

I have some cleaned and melted into muffin pan size pellets. Or I have unclean wax. I don't know what the going rate is, though.

It's about $6/lb, the same as honey, unless you're selling it for a $1/oz.

Interesting. $1/oz seems way better ;)
It does seem that wax is much harder to clean and prepare than honey. It seems odd that it would be the same price.

It's more rare too. You'd think it'd be more.

On a commercial scale, it's not that much more work than preparing honey, but it certainly is more work for the bees to produce. I always check out the "U.S. honey, beeswax, and pollen prices from our reporters" section of the American Bee Journal each month, the listed prices for hive products have been climbing in the last few years. The price of beeswax has increased dramatically in the last year, this is also reflected in the price of foundation.

I think that if you market your product correctly, you can charge more. For example, turning the beeswax into attractive looking candles will certainly get you more than $6/lb if you can find a buyer. I'm sure that there are consumers in the Madison area looking for local beeswax from hives that are not treated with synthetic chemicals.

I know that our foundation supplier told us that price of the refined
yellow beeswax they buy for waxing foundation went up about 36% into
the mid $3/lb range.
