Hey Mad-Railers!

My apologies for not making the January meeting happen. I was crazy
busy.

My schedule has also changed aren't good.

But, regardless, who wants to get together to share and swap Rails
knowledge?

Let's start with that, and plan when and where from there...

Thanks!
-Steve-

Count me in! Of course the when is always the fun part.

But definitely put me down as interested.

Yep count me in... Tuesday(2-17) may not be a good day to do it
because:
1) it is election day
2) it is TV Analog to Digital switch day... :)

OK - We have interest.

Next Step: Let's pick a date.

Here are some that work for me:

Monday, 2/23
Wednesday, 2/25
Monday, 3/2
Wednesday, 3/4

Also work, but not quite as smooth:
Thursday, 2/26
Tuesday, 3/3
Thursday, 3/5

What dates work for you?

Thanks!
-Steve-

Sounds great, 2/23 or 2/25 work best for me.

I have 1 not-so-small caveat and that's the fact that my wife is due
w/ our 2nd son around March 3rd. I may be there, I may not ;-)

Cheers,
_rs

OK - the days that attracted the most interest were:

Monday, 2/23 - 7 pts
Wednesday 2/25 - 7pts
Thursday 2/26 - 6 pts

I assigned points for declared availability, and fewer points for
implied availability, and these dates came in first.

Unfortunately none of these days were listed by everyone as working,
so I'll try to pick one quickly by emailing the person who did not
list a date, to see if there's any chance it would work for them
despite not being a top pick.

Thanks!

OK - now let's talk content and location

Content:
What do you have that you'd like to present?

  I'll kick things off:

If people want, I'd like to walk everyone through really using Rails 2.3 nested forms in a one off Rails app.
"Handle Multiple Models in One Form" is my most dog-eared Advanced Rails Recipe, and this new feature simplifies the task radically.
We'd want as many rails running laptops as possible.  I can bring 1 extra if someone asks.  Can anyone else bring an extra if needed?
  (assuming the idea flies)

I've got another idea, but let's hear what others want to share, and I'll keep that as filler

Location:

Next Testing has volunteered a conference room.  We're on Mineral Point Road between West Towne, and the Beltline, at the intersection of Mineral Point and Ganser Way.
Here's the google map.  Does this work for people?  Is it too far west?

Thanks!

I just realized that the Jonathan Coulton concert in Madison is on the 26th, so I can't make it that day (yes, I already have a ticket). I'd be really interested to see the nested forms demo... and I'm sure I'm not the only JoCo fan out there. Perhaps we could switch the day?

If not, have fun y'all.

Steve,

That location works great for me! It's very close to my house.

I'd just like to state for the record that my sign-off, ":brad," started well before I ever learned ruby... and has nothing to do, in fact, with programming.

That being said, I do like being a symbol. =)

Hey Railers!

I've got a copy of the very good Pragmatic Programmer Git book to give away at the meeting.  If more than one person is interested, we'll randomly pick who takes it home.

I've also got some mint copies of the 2nd edition pragprog Ruby and 2nd edition rails books someone can have if they want, although I would recommend you go with the newer editions that are out.  First person to let me know they have a use for them at the meeting gets them.  (weren't my copies.  Mine are well beat up!)

Meeting 6 PM Thursday 2/26 at Next Testing.

7617 Mineral Point Road
Suite 120

Enter on the lower level by Ryan Ambulance and the sign for Blueprints, Inc.

I'll unlock the outside door, but you can call my cell at 608-225-7539 if there's a problem with the door or you have trouble finding us.  Once you're inside, Next Testing's door is clearly labelled.

Any questions?

See you Thursday evening!
-Steve-
