For March’s Graphic novel group, we will be discussing Logicomix, a book depicting the foundational quest in mathamatics, written by Apostolos Doxiadis, author of Uncle Petros and Goldbach's Conjecture, and theoretical computer scientist Christos Papadimitriou of the University of California, Berkeley and visually produced by by Alecos Papadatos (character design and artwork) and Annie Di Donna (colourist).
The book is set between the 19th century and present day, intertwining the philosophical struggles of multiple individuals’ personal turmoils. The narrator of the book is Bertrand Russel and stands as an icon of many of these themes. The book itself has been received well by prublications such as the New York Times which gave it an Editor's Choice list on October 2nd and the next week it was #1 on the NYT Graphic Novel Best Seller list. It has also been recommended by the New Statesman. The book sold out on the day it was released in the United States and United Kingdom, and also got into the Top 10 on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk, leading the manager of a major Athens bookstore to say "No Greek book has sold abroad like this in 30 years."
The usual routine is also on: Please bring a recommended donation of £2 as well about a fiver if you are interested in getting food on the night. Hope to see you there:)
