<https://github.com/zfs-osx/zfs/issues/44#issuecomment-23377011> was based on an assumption that eventually there'll be support for the Finder interface to ACLs.

More recently: in the table of comparisons (which I hadn't viewed for a few weeks) I see that for MacZFS 2, alongside things that are planned:

* OS X style ACLs is set to no.

Please, can someone clarify?

I'm not chasing issue 44. Just seeking clarity on whether there's a plan to support that use of Finder.

More generally – and this is for potential testers in general (not for me me personally) – it would be good to see, in this group, guidance on things that might/should be avoided when testing.

Thanks

Not entirely sure what to say here. I am not too familiar with the dark alleys of OSX.

But ZFS-xattrs are fully implemented, you can use cmdline tools like "xattr" to set/view/remove any xattr you wish, you can copy OSX files with xattrs to/from ZFS, and now also on SMB exported ZFS.
You can use Finder to set "Open with" and other things without much issue. I believe at least one user is having ZFS as his home directory.

As far as I know, it is fully implemented. If you are having issues there must be quirks that I am not aware of.

There are aclmode, aclinherit, and xattr properties to take into account too, so make sure you pick the style that best suits you.

lundman: thanks. Truly, again, I'm *not* chasing the ACL issue (44). For now let's draw a line under 44.

----

More generally, under the subject/heading of Finder, are there any special considerations whilst testing – anything that might take a Mac user by surprise?

For example, the Eject command. Should users expect the command to be as effective with disks that are handled by ZFS-OSX as it is with disks that use HFS Plus alone?

After an eject: is it safe to physically disconnect then reconnect a disk? Or should disconnection be preceded by an export at the command line?

And so on. Not issue 44 in particular. Answers for Mac-oriented newcomers in general, not for me alone. Not eject alone:

* Finder in general.

I understand and respect the wish to focus first and foremost on command line compatibility – and (again) I don't expect special attention to things beyond the command line – but in IRC for MacZFS the occasional barriers to discussion made it unreasonably difficult to ask some types of question.

That's good, and I have a similar plan, <https://groups.google.com/d/msg/maczfs-devel/9s7tI3wuuyk/EsnibcpoUXUJ> and below that, there's a link to the question about USB.

Thanks again
