hi *,

i've been using Z410 and then ZEVO for some time now.  my current use cases are a secondary internal hdd as well as several external backup disks using zfs inside truecrypt disk volumes.  with the release of mavericks i'd like to upgrade my boxes, of course, so i'm curious about the current status of MacZFS.  i've read up a bit in the wiki and mailing list, but found it hard to decide if, for example, version 0.6.2 should be more or less usable by now.  its status on http://bitly.com/osxzfs has been change to "beta" and posts like https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/maczfs-devel/UrLUTxyt1DQ sound reassuring, but then there's also https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/maczfs-devel/s2m474kt3Sk :)

in any case, is there a significant risk of data loss, or are kernel panics "all" i'd have to expect?

best regards,

andi

I'm in the same boat as you are. I have the feeling that for now, your best bet is to not upgrade OS X. Greenbytes has announced that they will release a ZEVO update for Mavericks. Hopefully they won't keep us waiting for long. I'd like to migrate to MacZFS, though, so I'm happy to see more guinea pigs helping to iron out the bugs.

I'd really like to see ZEVO contributed back to the open source community. I wonder if there's a particular amount of money they're looking for, and whether it would be worthwhile trying to fund it with a Kickstarter or Indiegogo campaign. (Maybe the developers here would not find it useful to have another ZFS port on their hands. I don't know.)

+1

… I wonder … they're looking for …

You could write to the e-mail address that was given in June in the StorageMojo article:

Can Mac ZFS be saved?

(The title, and other aspects of the article, may have touched a nerve but the intention was good.)

I did write, it led to a telephone call that wiped away some of my preconceptions.

Around three weeks ago, Lundman wrote:

My hunch is that *if* there's to be open-sourcing by GreenBytes, or by a future owner of ZEVO, there'll be enough to please developers.

Hi :)

Been a while since this thread was alive, but it's interesting. Has anything come from this "telephone call that wiped away some of your preconceptions"?
Do we know anything about Greenbytes' standpoint? The potential future of ZEVO?
