When I copy a link to the clipboard in Google Drive I get some kind of message but it goes away before I can read it. When I email the link to somebody for them to download it they get a message that says: "Access Denied." I don't understand this when I have sent them the link. what do I need to do to fix this?

thanks.

Hi Lorie.
Are you trying to share a file or folder?
Both me and Chris Graham in Australia use Google drive all the time now.
If you go past the copy link option, you should see share via Google Drive.
It's worded something like that anyway.
When your in that window, just add the Email address of the person your sharing the item with.
Then all you have to do is hit send.

Don't worry about links or anything like that, Google drive takes care of that.
But for that share option to show up, you need to have the Google drive app open on your Mac.

Anyway hope this helps, if you get stuck feel free to get in touch.

thanks. I was trying to share a zip file. I actually found that option below "copy link to clipboard" and tried it. I don't know if it was successful yet. I was trying to use google drive the way I do dropbox where I copy the link to the clipboard and then send it out to whomever I want to have it. guess it doesn't work that way.

Hi Gary,

I also am looking at google drive like I use drop box but not working that way for me.
I have google drive installed but not sure how to create a folder and send invite to it yet?
I still have some files that a music client sent me on google drive which I some how managed to get down loaded to my down load folder but still can’t seem to make it work like drop box! LOL
any body have a step by step getting these clients files over to my mac?
Can I just save the folder I was invited to to my mac?
Thanks
Chuck

I can download stuff from Google Drive to my downloads folder but I used to be able to save them to Google drive and I can't find that option any more. it doesn't matter that much but I think it would be more convenient to save them to Google Drive if that's possible.

Hi,

When you subscribe to Google Drive, it is beneficial to download the Google Drive app.  This will let you be signed into Google Drive and let you sync your Google Drive files more easily.  Once installed the Google Drive items don’t actually use up much local storage.  Installation adds a few menu items where you can download items for local use, an/or push things up into the Cloud so they don’t use up any space on your local computer.

Later…

Hi Tim,
Thanks.
I did install google drive and I see this in my home folder.
Google Drive Alias
I run it and then see the folder but the folder this client sent me an invite to is still on google drive cloud I guess?
What I was looking for was to down load that folder I was invited to and then see it on my mac.
May be I’m missing something?
Thanks
Chuck

Hi,

There is a way but I can’t remember right now I will check later though and see if I can send some instructions - I think if you see the folder in the google drive in the cloud you can bring up the context menu with VOshift m and that gives you the option to add a link to your local drive folder

Did you ever get this sorted - you need to click the bit that offers a shortcut to drive

I installed Google Drive on my Mac. Now there’s a folder in my home folder named Google Drive Alias. Is that it or did it get installed somewhere else? When I open it, it has my drive and other computers in it. All. My stuff looks like it’s there. That is, I can read their names or titles. It’s not large enough to really have those things in it. It must just point to them on the web. How would I add something to Google Drive if I wanted to share it?

thanks.
