Midwest Affiliate,
Last year, at the regional business meeting during NACURH 2010 at the University of California-San Diego, the National Communication Coordinators legislated into policy a new program referred to as the MACURH Alumni and Recognition Corps (MARC). MARC was developed as a way to engage our alumni through a recognition service that would also aim to incorporate our alumni with our day-to-day business within the region. The program offered institutions and alumni with the opportunity to induct others or themselves into the program. With a one-time payment of $50.00 (fifty dollars), individuals were inducted into the recognition corps, included in the alumni listserv to be sent all relevant information in the region, and given a memorable padfolio in recognition of their prolonged service to the organization.
When this program was legislated by the previous Regional Board of Directors under Howard Stoltz, the legislation stipulated that if the initial investment of upward of $500 was not raised to pay for the first order of padfolios for the program, then the corps would cease to exist. To this day, the interest level for this program has been next to nothing, and the original pledgers contacted during the development of this program have fallen back on their promises to assist in developing the start-up fund. Thus, we are going to dissolve MARC in its current state and hit the drawing board once again. It is my opinion that we do not completely rid this organization of an alumni program, but rather, develop a program that is affordable and effective in actually engaging our alumni, and connecting them with the individuals in our region.
This statement serves as a current end to the program, and I will ensure to keep you all posted as we re-develop a new program that will meet the same goals, but at a reasonable cost to the region. The link will be removed from the website until further notice. I will be contacting individuals for feedback on this as well.
Best,
Sammy
