1) In xRes mode, Is there any way to group several floating objects? I
want to scale 5 objects as if they were 1 object.
2) dragging objects in the object panel to reorder layers, the view
doesn't scroll, so I have to let go 1/2 way, and scroll manually, then
drag the layer the other 1/2 of the way. Is this normal?
3a) Is there any way to change text once it has been created?
3b) Erasing some text paints it to the bg color. Can I remove text after
it has been created?
4) Is there any way to drag-select multiple items (drawing a rectangle
around them with the selection cursor) in the working window?

Yes. You need to import all objects in one file, and use the Drop
Object command under the Select menu for each object as you line them
up. After their all dropped and lined up, select them all and copy so
you can open a new file and paste them together as one file.

Make sure no object is locked in the Objects panel..

No, after you create a text, xRes recognizes it as an object layer so
you need to undo and create the text again.

You need to drag the text to the trash can in the Object panel.

No, you can only work with one object at a time, unless you drop them
like using the technique I just described in my answer to your
question #1

3b> If you are trying to erase particular letters or parts of letters and
are ending up with the bg color instead of erasing the entire layer here's
the problem: When Xres creates a text layer it actually creates a layer of
the fg color and then applies a mask channel the shape of the letters.
(correct me if I'm wrong, Luiz) So in order to erase a letter or part of a
letter without showing the bg color, you have to go to your channels
pallette and make sure that none of your color channels are active, only
your mask channel is active *before* you start erasing and set your bg color
to black. Then you should be able to do this. Don't forget when you're done
to make the color channels active and the mask channel inactive to do other
operations to the text object. Also make sure you understand the difference
between active and visible in the channels pallette.
Hope this helps.

You are basically painting in black on the mask channel, which "erases" the
info that is displayed in the layer (object). By the way, the way to tell,
in the channels pallette, which ones are active is that the active
channel(s) is highlighted in gray. You can shift click to make more than one
channel active. Channels that are visible have a check mark in the left
column with the little eye at the top, and channels that are acting as masks
are indicated with a check in the right column, beside the visibility
column. A visible channel does not have to be active, and I believe, vice
versa.
