I can't seem to get Russian Characters to display in the buttons (contents,
search) in Flash Help. The Alt text will display fine.

I've gone in to the .fhs file and replaced "::??DefaultWebSkinText??::" with
what I need but still nothing will display. English characters work fine

Any help appreciated.

As far as I can tell, this depends on the font used in the actual Flash movies.
The Flash files aren't set up to accommodate non-roman characters by default.
If you or someone you work with has Adobe Flash, the .fla files included in the
skin can be changed so that Cyrillic characters are embedded. See
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/robohelp/articles/localized_projects_06.html about
localized RH projects for info about embedding characters in the Flash movies.

Thanks Ben this worked. However now the automatic button sizing is out of whack, seems to be double size. Any ideas?

A character should always have a corresponding Unicode. You can do such a test
using MS Wods.
1) Highligh a character.
2) Click the Insert from the Toolbar and then click the Symbol...
You should get its Unicode (Hex, for example) from the popped-out Symbols
interface.
As I know, there are more than 6000 characters, but not all of them are loaded
onto a CPU usually. Therefore, many charcaters may not be recognized by your
CPU.
Besides, the loaded sysmbols may be different for different softwares in the
same PC. For instance, MS Words usually loads the most of the Symbols (or
characters). For some characters in Latin Extension Additional Symbol
category, MS Words show much more than MS Excel.
How to load more available sysmbols onto a SW? I don't know. I wish someone
can share his/her knowledge on it.

FlashHelp loads its button text dynamically from XML files within the output
directory.

@betdaq, did you just do the embedding, or did you change the text itself
(should always say "label") in the Flash files? Did you make any edits to the
button animations?

What is the font that is used? Arial Unicode MS should allow for many
characters without having to embed, but maybe you don't want that font.

Can you provide a screenshot of the double-sized buttons in your output and
provide a link? There are some free image-uploading sites out there, but I
can't think of one off the top of my head. This problem sounds strange, as the
buttons are supposed to scale depending on the text that is passed in at
runtime.

Hi Ben, I just did the embedding, "label" was left as is (Dynamic text) in
flash file. Font was veranda, change it to Arial and still same effect of
doubling. I don't have the font Arial Unicode MS. Text is being read from .lng
file. I've tried adding it into the .fhs file as well but same affect.

I realise the buttons are supposed to scale depending on the text that is
passed in at runtime but it seems Cyrillic characters are double spaced when I
copy them into notepad beside english characters of the same font so perhaps
that is the problem.

I think the text is passed in from wfres.xml, which is based on the .lng file. Open up wfres.xml and see if the button text is correct with no extra spacing.

Hi Ben, wfres.xml looks fine. I think it's the way the dynamic sizing of the
flash button reads the unicode for the sizing as text. text appears fine but
not button

Here are 3 screen shots, 1st one is of the button expanding to the right, 2nd
of how notepad reads Cyrillic characters and 3rd one of the xml file. ----->
http://www.betdaqaffiliates.com/affiliate_engine/RHF8_SS.html

Reason for the notepad screen shot is this is what make me think flash is
picking up the extra spacing. Something to do with the way it reads unicode...
but this is just a guess of course!

Could I put something in the button actionscript to minimise expanding by 30%?
