Shockwave has been broken for me since it recently updated to 11. It installs
fine but when I try to load Shockwave games it says "Adode Shockwave Player is
now installing: Installing Compatibility Components" and it gets stuck. I've
tried to install an older Shockwave (10.1) but it says it is missing 'Xtras'.
If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. :)

I use WindowsXP and everything is updated.

I think this means it's trying to download and use version 10.4.0.025
and perhaps Adobe haven't gotten around to uploading the bits required
for 10.4.
Can you point out a page containing a SW movie that causes the error you
describe?
See: <http://www.adobe.com/go/kb403195> for more details about Shockwave
version compatibility and the (theoretical) management thereof.

It has been broken for me too since the update came. I am using Windows 2000
and IE6; all fully updated. During installation I get the error that
GetSystemWow64DirectoryA is not found. Strange that Shockwave automatically
wants to update to a version that is not functioning. Does anyone know where to
find an older and well funtioning version?

Since I downloaded the newest version of Shockwave, I can no longer play my
favourite games. It takes ages to install these compatibility components. I
have to refresh so many times cos it will stop installing after a certain
amount of time. Is there a solution to this??

Are you behind a proxy server that requires authentication? If so add
macromedia.com to the list of sites that do no require authentication.

If you have access to your proxy logs, look in them and you will find a bunch
of 407 errors (proxy auth required).

Just allow backward compatibility.

I have the same problem with a game site. Their help person informed me that
the new Shockwave Player is not supporting old operating systems including XP.
Don't know why...but think this is wrong of Adobe to do this. I tried
everything including uninstalling my old version of Shockwave Player as
suggested by Adobe, then re-installing the new version. Nothing still! I get
the downloading Adobe shockwave player page too....then it freezes after it
supposedly installed it. As long as you have the most current operating
system, I have heard it works fine. Wish the bugs would all get worked out of
programs prior to the release of them.

Shockwave 11 is not compatible with Win2000... :-(
We have the same problems with our users with Windows 98.

Dear Sir or Madam,

How do we identify whether the problem with the new Shockwave is because of
our operating system or if it's because of the games/progarms we're running?
Can some kind person please answer my question?

Thank you!

Whnever there is a new windows installed there is always a requirement of such components to be installed.
