I am running windows XP pro, with the latest IE and have tried various
scenario's to get shockwave installed but this get the same error " Your
computer must be restarted in order to complete the installation"
although this message continues to show up even after a reboot !!.
I took it one step further and installed firefox and downloaded the
shockwave plug in at which point I get an error with "iml32.dll" which I
have tried to use a fresh dll and replace the potential damage but I
still get the same error's in both browsers !!
Any help would be appriciated
If anyone knows how to fix this I would also be grateful...this has gotten
very annoying. I have uninstalled and reinstalled...followed all the help
topics recommendations to NO avail.
Come on moderator, several people are reporting the same problem - can we have
a fix/solution please???
What I did...
1. Uninstalled Shockwave via the stand-alone uninstaller found in the
Shockwave file.
2. Did not restart. That's probably not relevant.
3. Re-installed Shockwave using following procedure:
Loaded a web game needing Shockwave. (Anything 3-D, [L=Big
Idea]http://www.bigideafun.com[/L] has some fun ones!
When game told me I did not have the plug-in and asked if I would like to
aquire it, selected Yes.
Proceeded to follow the usual routine of installing Shockwave.
And it...
WORKED!!!
Any other ideas out there ??
The most promising error message I have received to date is that I am
missing files. it then prompts me to repair them, but I am FORBIDDEN on that
macromedia page, thus NO repair ! lol
I finally got it working...not sure what I did RIGHT this time. I
downloaded the tuneup utilities 2004 from downloads.com and defragged my
registry.
I used the shockwave unistaller from here to uninstall the player.
I then deleted the entire macromedia folder from system32 in the Windows
folder.
I then downloaded a shockwave registry remover from microsoft ( search for
Shkwvfix.exe )
Finally I REdownloaded the player from macromedia and it WORKED.
MONTHS of frustration are finally over !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any ideas ?
Look for files called Dirapi.dll and iml32.dll (Director runtime files) in the
system folder (C:\Windows\System32).
Cut these files and paste them to another location on your hard drive (not in
the Windows Directory). Make sure that you take note of the new location.
Uninstall the Shockwave player using the uninstaller and delete the Macromed
folder (also under the System folder).
Reinstall the Shockwave player using the stand-alone installer.
Hey, this actually works! The only thing I'm curious about, is what to
do with Dirapi en Iml32. Tried to move them back into the
system32-folder, but then the same problems occured. Can these files
be missed???
