Bumping this thread back up,I just found these forums and I have been having
this same problem,no sound in any Macromedia flash movies, there are several
other types that I can hear, for instance, any .swf movies I can hear just
fine, also I just bought Rise of Nations Microsoft PC game, and there is no sound
there either,I play many online fps games aswell as rts games and Rise of
Nations is the only one that plays no sounds,so,I woner if there's a connection
between these two things,?I know it must be my machine I just cant figure it
out,Ive tried everything except reformatting, and I have definately tried
reinstalling Macr. player,so its not that, any help would be greatly appreciated
good people, thank you very much for your time:)

I'm having the exact same problem. For years my flash worked fine. But after
installing System Mechanic and running several sweeps to clean the spyware and
viruses off my system, i noticed that i can no longer hear anything on flash
animations or video played through any of my browsers. I've uninstalled and
reinstalled all of my browsers, and flash, with no luck. The same problem- no
audio at all. The rest of my system audio is fine. I can play sound through
windows media player. But i can't view webcasts since it launches IE to do so-
and audio won't play at all through any of my browsers (IE, Mozilla, or
Firefox).

This is extremely frustration. I tried undoing and restoring any system
changes that "System Mechanic" did, and it didn't help. I'm horrified by the
complete lack of any useful support from Macromedia or Microsoft. I haven't
been able to find any useful solutions or even webpages that remotely
acknowledge my problem. I'm also frustrated by the lack of an uninstall
feature from Macromedia. I would like to be able to uninstall and reinstall
flash. But everytime i try that, it merely activates or deactivates it. I
can't seem to get flash to uninstall and revert all of the system modifications
it made. As a result each time i reinstall Flash, it installs it in the exact
defunct state that i'd uninstalled it in, rather then resetting itself.

Why does crap like this happen? Why is it that i have to spend over a day to
figure this out?

The utter lack of Q&A for Macromedia and Microsoft products is dispicable.
Problems like this shouldn't happen, and if they do there should be a means of
correcting it. Right now i'm hopelessly powerless to do anything other then
reinstall my OS in hopes that that will finally fix the problem.

Does anyone else have any less draconian solutions to this? I just want to
hear a bloody webcast!

I have the same problem.

I can't hear any audio on flash websites. Everything used to work fine until
a while ago, I'm not sure exactly when it started as I have only NOW really
gotten interested in trying to get it fixed.

I've searched like crazy for weeks on a solution and so far I haven't found
anything that helps. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my browsers, flash and
shockwave. I still don't know what the problem is.

I really would like some help with this, macromedia.. if your out there...
please help?

I'm having this exact same problem. I've uninstalled the flash player a dozen
times and reinstalled it, and I'm still getting now sound from flash sites or
even from swf files. It's very frustrating. I'm running Firefox. The
animations run fine, but no audio.

Please, macromedia, what's the solution to this -- apparently -- common
problem.

Sometimes I get the sound back when I uninstall or re-install QuickTime or

Anyone, please be brillant!

I figured it out ... i didnt have sound in MIDI files either, so i checked my
Sound Volume/Mixer settings, and it was set to 4 speaker setup instead of
headphones like im using now.

And sound returned in both MIDI files and Flash player. Funny thing is that i
didnt have this problem in ANY other software but Flash/Shockwave and MIDI
music playback!

I have a customer who is having a very similar problem with Flash. He is using
Win98, Flash 7, IE 6. When he uninstalls Norton Antivirus, his sound comes back
for Flash.

Has anyone had this happen? How can I get Norton to work on Win98 with Flash?
I have the same version of NAV on my Win2k box and everything works just fine.

Thanks!

THIS WORKED FOR ME !!!!

Some software I instaled did the sound on Macromedia doesn't work anymore, so
I restored the system to a previous date.

If you don't know how to do this, here is a hint: start - run - type :
%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

and put the earlier date you can. The sound will certainly come back. Hope
good luck to all of you. Bye!

I've been having the same problem. It seems to be some sort of conflict with
Winamp. I've found that when I shut down Winamp FlashPlayer runs with no
problems. If Winamp is on then Flash looses audio and animations stop after the
first few frames.

I'd like to find a convenient solution. It's a pain to have to use one or the
other but at least this seems to work for the time being.

I had this problem for a while and i could hear sound through everything except
msn messenger and flash player. I then looked through and i found that my
soundcard driver was not installed. I installed it and and restarted and now
everything works.
If you want to see if you soundcard driver is installed, goto Start->Controll
Panel->Sound and Audio devices. It should say your soundcard that is installed
at the very top of the first tab. If it says no audio device, then go find the
right soundcard driver and install. This worked for me, i hope i helped.

I've had the same problem, I found out that when I clicked on the sounds icon
in control panel (XP) I saw that I didn't have a sound card... But I was able
to hear windows sounds, and play Media player fine!

I've uninstalled the drivers for the sound card and reinstalled them... then I
clicked over a few tabs under sounds and used the drop down menus to select all
windows related noises to my audio card (Instead of my modem or other crap).
All of my sound came right back....:)

fcrisial, mine now works, though I do not know for sure what I did. I kept
playing with Kmix and changing the settings. I did have animations already.
FWIW, I have Intel82801DB sound integral to the motherboard. The following are
currently my KMix settings, I have set Master ON, Master mono ON, PCM ON, LFE
ON, AC97 slider set all the way up; in the Switches section I have Video set
ON, and IEC98 set ON, everything else off. ALL inputs are set ON. In the KDE
control Center for Sound, I have sound enabled, Run with Highest priority is
checked, and Auto-suspend if Idle is checked (after 60 seconds). Those are my
settings. As I said, I kept playing with the settings and suddenly I had audio,
but I am not sure which one was the culprit. Good luck.

the last time i remember, i didn't have any adjustments to my computer. except
clean out some spyware for my computer. and also i encoded some avi files, with
dvd2vcd program, and other programs. but these things are unrelated. i see
nothing wrong, but some how when i play the streamed audios.

it would just not play. like the song title, and everything would show up, but
the play button doesn't work.

1) i already got macromedia stuff installed before this even happened.
2) nothing is wrong with my soundcard, all my mp3's thats saved on my computer
is listenable.
3) nothing is wrong with my IE, mozilla's settings. because i reset it all.
4) the only problem is buffering files. ex. soundclick, myspace, and etc.
5) tried to reinstall, update windows, scan virus, and spyware.

You people who run "system cleaners" without understanding what it is you are deleting, should not be surprised when your system stops working correctly. It's not Macromedia's fault.

We never blamed Macromedia. Not everyone should know what we're deleting. But
this is the best place to discuss how to resolve this problem, because theres

I know what i am doing when i am using spyware tools...
Unfortunately from time to time i have to get rid of the spyware which passes
through ZA, NOD and Ad-aware. Mostly cookies and nothing related to the
installed programs. So it must be that some of those nasties changed registry
in a way to prevent buffered sounds working after i removed them.
If alternative was not to use Spayware Doctor and leave that s**t on my
computer i would prefer to be "soundless" then infected...But i still think
that Macromedia should investigate probable causes to this problem, because
it's not new and it is quite common problem as far as I can see on the Web.

OK i had this problem for like 2 months and FINALLY i solved it

i first read you had to uninstall GetRight. Did that, but that wasn't the
solution.

So i read further, about the 4 speaker settings. Start --> Control Panel -->
Sounds and Audio Devices --> Speaker Settings --> Advanced. I set the option to
Stereo Headphones. MP3 was still working, but still no flash sound. Then, I
came up with something brilliantly (which I hadnt thought of earlier), maybe my
audio cable is in the wrong soundcard socket. So I put it in the other socket
--> MP3 still worked, and my Flash sound is back.

So maybe that is it, the Flash sound is being directed to the wrong outgoing
socket on your soundcard....

Hope this works for you...

Ive been having the same problem and here is what I did. While a flash is
playing, right click it and select 'Settings', Under the sound recording
option, the bar measuring the db of the sound was not moving, so I changed the
input to a different jack and now the sound will play through my headphones.
So, that eliminates Macro Flash as the problem, it looks like a hardware
problem.

Finally !!!!!! And so simple.....

It was Registry problem.... caused by clean-up with Spayware Doctor.
Nothing to do with hardware.
So if Flash sound AND System sounds don't work here is the solution....

AND ..... system sounds are back and Flash sound is back......

FIXED! The K-Lite codec pack has some sort of codec fixer built in, that scans
your registry and fixes and broken codecs.

I wuld read over what K-Lite actually is, before installing it. As it does
appear to re-install all your codecs. But I had enough of no flash audio, so
just did it.

There was a post here previously suggesting this, thanks who ever originally
posted! But it appears the post was deleted.

If you search in google for K-Lite, you should find it.

K-Lite fixed it for me. Thanks!

For the record, I'm using Windows XP Pro, and have onboard sound with the
Realtek AC97 driver. The problem seemed to have started after I accidentally
unplugged the sound wire from my computer. After I plugged it back in, these
desktop applications could play sound: Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player,
Google Media Player (downloaded).
No system sounds worked, embedded flash didn't work in IE nor in Firefox, and
MSN sound alerts didn't work.

The Midi device in sound properties was blank and and "Use default devices"
was checked, and when I would make a change to either of those options, my
choice was not saved upon re-opening sound properties. Now it is correctly set
to Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth and "Use default devices" is unchecked.

Also in the sound properties window, under the Sound tab, I could not play any
of the system sounds (by clicking the play button), however I could play the
system sounds as wav files by using Windows Media Player.

Now all is fixed, thanks to K-Lite. I ran the program fixcodecs.exe which was
under the Tools directory within the K-Lite install directory.

K-Lite works like a charm!! Many thanks to all of you who brought it up.

My problem was no flash sound AND system sound. I followed cviko_m's

way-- installation and fixing takes literally less than 5 minutes.

K-Lite is a freeware and you can download it at http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

I had two problem (I thought was a flash problem as I had the same one above
before )one was no sound or video on web site mpgs and scratchy sound when ever
I use the scroll bar with sound playing. I am using xp but have a cheap video
card for now as I just upgraded to a 64bit mother board and thought it had on
board graphics (till I went to plug in the monitor) it was all in Japanese the
manual was on the CD-Rom which was a lot of good to me being that I didn't have
another PC to read it?
I installed xp on a spare drive and took it step by step
Cutting a very long story short the video problem was down to a corrupted mpg2
decoders files or lack of them along with a conflict with unlead dvd player.I
used DJBCP_Codec_Pack_5.1.0.1 from http://www.free-codecs.com/
the scratchy sound was the graphics card I lowed the performance accelerator
down two notices in system performance and that worked.Right click desktop got
to properties then settings then advanced then troubleshoot.

Hope that helps as I have been days trying to solve this one. Thanks also for
the tip above as that solved a problem I had again after I had done one
re-format of the hard drive.

I have had the same issue for months and I'm really starting to dispair here :(

Things I have tried (but didn't help):
- Un/re-installed all flash players
- Un/re-installed Flash MX
- Un/re-installed my audio drivers
- Un/re-installed my web browsers

- The 'GetRight' solution posted afore, also proved fruitless (specially as I
don't have GetRight instaled, but do have this problem)

I do have audio for MP3's, other applications and games etc. It's purely with
flash that I get absolutley no audio.
When I play a flash movie with audio, the audio doesn't register at all on my
spectrum analyzer... as if there was no audio signal comming from flash.

System Specs:
Windows XP Pro, SP1
1 gig of RAM
Nvidia Nforce audio
Flash MX, flashplayer 8

I really urge Macromedia to look into this, as currently I cannot use any
flash aplication that requires sound.
A lot of people seem to be having a similar issue with absolutely no solution
on the horizon.
Help needed urgently!

Same thing has happened to me... however I don't even know if it was spyware
related or not (I have Spybot S&D, and hadn't used this tool recently at all..)
The sound problems are recent though. No system sounds, and no Flash, or any
browser related audio altogether. I have RealTek AC97 and use have been using
a 5.1 setup since I purchased the Logitech speaker system I use. I've had this
configuration for at least 4 months, the only problem I ever experienced was
that the center speaker never put out sound. But that had never halted my
browsers audio (Firefox 1.5) or windows system sounds before. I downloaded the
K-Lite codec fix, and ran the "fixcodecs" .exe whilst checking the box for Fix
non-working system sounds... and there is still no difference.

I too recently discovered that I have no sound in Flash Player on 2 seperate
PCs. Both are configured completely differently yet sound works through other
applications.

I must add that this website is appauling to use and I hope Adobe don't ruin
everything Macromedia has done for web users.

One very disappointed user.

I am having the same problem with no sound from Flash Player on my tablet PC

Macromedia is of no help at all. When I call their technical phone number I
get transferred through a series of mazes when it finally tells me to go online
and look for the solution, then it hangs up on me!

Extreme frustration!!!!!!!!!!!!:disgust;

So frustrating. I don't even care to admit how much time I've spent trying to
get the audio to work on flash. Like most others, there's nothing wrong with
the sound on my computer. Works fine for everything else.

I don't have getright, i've reinstalled flash a hundred times, i tried the
k-lite thing, i've tried crying. nothing.

Also if I may add something - there ARE spyware cleaners, registry cleaners etc
you can use that have UNDO features for people who do not understand or know
what they are deleting or are new to using them. That way if somethings gets
screwed up you can go back and undo it. Ad-Aware and Spybot have undo features
just to name a couple of them.

It was Registry problem.... caused by clean-up with Spayware Doctor.
Nothing to do with hardware.
So if Flash sound AND System sounds don't work here is the solution....

Get K-Lite Codec Pack 2.69 Standard
h**p://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

Install Package and then go to

**/K-Lite Codec Pack/Configuration/ and Run "Codec Tweak Tool"

tick "Fixes / Fix Non-working system sound "
Run tool...

AND ..... system sounds are back and Flash sound is back......

I just wanted to post and say thanks for this advice. I've been without sound
in Flash for a long, long time. This fixed my problem!

Thanks again!

EASY FIX!!!

I have found an incredebly low tech solution and sound is back in 5 mins.
All you have to do is make a new windows account for you I did and the
sound was back you dont have to delete the old account, but if you do there
is a option on xp to save you files in you documents

Adobe has recently released Flash Player 9. Download and check to see if the new Player resolves these audio issues.

You can download Flash Player 9 here:

HEy I have had the same problem.
So here was what worked for me!

I opened Garage Band
and then messed around a bit and then everything worked fine.
Seems as if Garge band resets the sound prefs.

Don't know why- but try it!

Same issue but this solution worked for me.
In IE click Tools-Internet Options then
Delete Files and Delete Cookies and for the hell of it clear history.

Click on the Advanced tab at top, scroll down and under multimedia make sure
"play sounds in web pages" is checked (mine was, but check anyway)

Boom.... sound was back.

I have had the same problem and thanks to cviko_m it is problem solved.

However, the process somehow scrambled my desktop and now I am unable to use
my dual monitor setup. Display Properties - Settings shows "Default Monitor"
and there is no facility to view alternative monitors. The Windows "Dualview"
setup seems to have been corrupted.

Any ideas out there?

I found this helpful (thanks to cviko_m):

http://www.codecguide.com/fix_for_flash_sound_problems.htm

What fixed it for me was just deleting the Flash Player directories:
C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Application Data\Adobe\Flash Player
C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player
