I live in Ireland and I'm guessing this would be a problem. But maybe we
could come to some kind of arangement.
I have excellent motivation and ALWAYS meet deadlines with ease. I have an
excellent eye for design and posess all the nessacary skills for good
design.

First this should have been posted in the flash.sitedsign forum but since
we're here and I have the time here goes...

I do like the direction you were taking but you got a little lost in the
concept. Let me explain.

1. The look is inconsistent. You used way too many different fonts and
colors. If that is your logo in the top left corner you should stick to the
look and color scheme that is present there. White background with 2
different shades of purple (could be used as highlights) and blue are more
than enough colors for a "corporate" look. Consistency across the entire
"Corporate Wardrobe" (letterhead, business cards, web, etc.) is essential.
Think FedEx, everything that has their name on it looks like it came from
them; same colors, same font, everything. This is where the term "branding"
starts. Hint: branding is not necessarily expensive just thought and time
consuming.

2. Loose that freakin' JavaScript scroll message. It might be cool to you
but it is annoying as hell to most "average" viewers. It almost never moves
consistently and it makes the viewer look away from your page. This is
obviously what you don't want to happen. Be a little creative and find a
place for that info elsewhere.

3. Fix the navigation bar. "Offshore Development" should not creep out of
the border you so carefully created. "Projects Under-taken" is dangerously
close. Either expand the bar a little more. Or, and this is my suggestion;
drop the little connector line and pick up an extra few pixels. Next, I
would loose the clip art in the background. The globe, okay maybe, I see the
other at the top "consistency" I like. But the little computer makes the
whole thing look a little cheap. Trust me it has it's place but not in this
particular design. Also I noticed the navigation and the top bar aren't the
same color blue.

4. The Flash movie's background doesn't match the back ground in IE 5. This
also doesn't look good. You can use a bitmap 4x4 px in both the flash movie
and your HTML to achieve a similar look.

5. Never, ever, ever, create browser specific pages. If you have to cart
the viewer off to a different version of your site then do so, but the whole
"This site is best viewed with..." is bad, bad, news. This also goes back
to # 2, JavaScript is not universally supported. So if someone is viewing
your site on an unsupported or JavaScript disabled browser they just missed
the whole thing. On that note frames are not as widely supported as one
might think either. Hell, even early versions of IE 4 have a hard time
rendering tables. Scary eh?

6. Lastly but VERY important for design's sake as well as for
compatibility's sake I will say this. Using Comic Sans as any kind of font
in a web page is not a good idea. Not everybody has that font and if they
don't your page will show up with whatever fruit loop font is default on
that particular system. Trust me I've seen some goobers really tinker with
their systems and you never know what you might end up with.

All in all I would say not bad. The thing I like to do when designing a
site is look at all of your competition. Take meticulous notes and pick
their sites apart. Find out all the things they did wrong and make a
commitment to make them all right on your site. You always have to think
about how to build a better mousetrap. If not, well... you know the rest.

I hope this helps and my biggest recommendation would be get a couple of
books, one about HTML, learn it. I don't care how much I love Dreamweaver I
always tweak my HTML by hand. The other book something regarding web design
in general, "Web Design Studio Secrets" is very good in my opinion.

Good Luck and don't get eaten by the cookie monster.

J,

So, is FedEx still blue & orange?

Or are they now purple and green?

Or is that just e*trade?

That was a bit harsh don't you think?
I think it would have served the designer better if you had e-mailed your
comments directly to him.
Also I don't think it's fair using obscenities in your mail to a fellow
designer. How do you expect him to take your design advice?

I just think designers should be more curtious for everyone's sake.

Thanks.

Thanks.

You're right I thought about apologizing off the bat. I didn't feel that my
words were vulgar really. I should have just went with my gut feeling after
I posted it but what's done is done. For those I have offended I am truly
sorry.

As for posting in the group I disagree. Several years ago I was just
starting out and I needed help like that. Tutorial sites were far and few
between and I scoured newsgroups and message boards to gather info and learn
tips from those who knew. If even one person gained a little insight
because of it then I'm happy. Most people take newsgroups too seriously,
but thanks for calling me on that one Moose.

Again sorry all.

The Green and Purple has something to do with their new "Ground Service"

but don't quote me on that. Mere speculation folks.

I actually found J T's comments very friendly and extremely constructive.
I picked up hints on the way too.
Always wanting to learn more...
If all critique was that good I think we'd all benefit from it.
Good, fair words, not harsh and definitely not vulgar.
Keep it up.
