Is it possible to open up a .CDR file in FH?
I can't seem to figure it out, if there is a way. I don't own any Corel
products, but was just sent a couple of .CDR vector files from Europe.
Do they just need to be saved in another format, or is there some
conversion utility available so that I can manipulate the file in FH?

What version do you have? In FH8 you are supposed to be able to open
open .cdr files directly (up to Corel7). But it doesn't really work.
Give the files to someone who has Corel to export it to an illustrator
file.

I believe FH will open a prior-version .cdr file, so long as the .cdr
was saved will all compression options turned off.

FreeHand 8 PC will open CorelDraw 3, 5, 6 and 7. I'm not sure about
the Mac version of Corel.

I have experienced problems with opening .cdr and .cmx files in FH. objects
distorted and a whole mess. However exporting drawings from Corel to AI and
opening them in FH with Preferences>Import/Export>Convert editable EPS when
imported - ticked works excellent.

The PDF export from CorelDraw seems to work well also.

FreeHand 8 Mac can open only CorelDraw 7 files that have been saved without
compression.
