Here's one possibility; Freehand requires that a Postscript printer be
set up for the current document in order for proper embedding of fonts
within EPS files. It stands to reason that this might also affect font
handling in PDF exports.
However, it's a moot point, because it appears as if you already have
the fix. If you have Acrobat, then you will get far better results by
printing to Distiller instead of using FreeHand's PDF export.
