I am a new user of Fontographer 4.1 on Windows 98. I use Fontographer
to generate
font versions of Corporate Logos for use in documents and presentations.

In following what I understand of the Fontographer instructions, I
inevitably end up
with a Windows Font with the name 'Untitled-1' or 'Untitled-2'. I am
unable to locate
instructions for establishing this name.

The procedure I use is as follows:
1)Select File-->New Font
2)Double click on the letter which will represent the Logo
3)Open a bitmap editor and load the Corporate Logo Windows bitmap.
4)Copy the bitmap to the Windows clipboard and past into the
Fontographer window.
This is done because the 'Import Bitmap' function of Fontographer
does not seem to
recognize Windows BMP's.
At this point the Title Bar of Fontographer is showing 'Untitled-1'
and I can find no
way to change this. I can 'SAVE-AS' and give a name to the FOG
file, but the
Title bar continues to show 'Untitled-1'. This is the name assigned
to the Font at the
end of the procedure.
5) Select Element --> Autotrace and make any adjustments required
6) Select Element --> Transform
7) Select File --> Generate Font Files
At this point, I have the following files
myname.fog <-- the fog file I named and saved in step 4
Untitled-1.afm <-- files resulting from step 7 generate
Untitled-1.inf
Untitled-1.pfm
Untitled-1.ttf
8) Finally, I go to Windows Control Panel, select Fonts, Install Fonts
and point
to the font files generated by Fontographer.
This adds a Font called 'Untitled-1'
I have tried renaming the files out of step 7 before executing step
8, to no avail.
I have tried editing the content of the 'inf' file to change its
references to 'Untitled-1'
again to no avail.

I would be very appreciative if someone could help me with both the
naming question
and with the apparent inability of Fontographer to recognize the Windows
BMP file format in Step 4.

Many thanks in advance..

Mike,
From the main menu, select Element, then Font Info, and then General. That
will display a menu with the font name, Untitled being the default. Change
it to what you want.
