I've had Fontographer 4.1 installed on my machine for years, but I haven't
used it in a while. Now, when I have a need for it again, I can't load it
anymore. I get an error that says: "Could not initialize the program,
because there is not enough memory available to run." Well, suffice to say,
I've got more than enough memory for this program - 3x what I had the last
time I used the program, anyhow. (I'm at 1.5 GB. Was at 512 MB before.)
There's also plenty of hard-drive space on the drive it's installed on. I
was thinking maybe if I just trashed the .ini file and forced it to reset
the settings that might fix it. (I've done similar for other programs,
Photoshop, Director, etc.) But I can't find any obvious settings file in
the Fontographer folder that might be the one. Does anybody else know how I
might go about resetting it? (It may just be confused about the location of
the scratch-disc or something, since drives have moved around a bit since
last time I ran it.)

(Does Macromedia - sorry, Adobe - even support this product anymore? This
forum dropped off the forums.macromedia.com list, but it's still there in my
Giganews list, I wonder if this post will even go through?)

Damn. Finally tracked down my installer disc and re-installed the program,
and I still get the same error even with a fresh install. Does anybody know
what I can do about this? Is there anybody still out there anyhow?

I would like this group to start up again too.

You should probably upgrade the Fonto4.1 to 4.7. Macromedia
sold/abandoned? Fontographer to Fontlab and FL has upgraded the old
fontographer to run in OSX.

Are you working on a PC or a Mac?
I've never seen the memory problem you are having. But when Macs went to
OSX I had to use the Fontographer version that was "NFPU" without the
floating point which ran in Classic, it was in the Fontographer folder.
Maybe you should try that if there is a Fontographer NFPU in the 4.1
version that you have. Otherwise, I would try to track down a PC version
of 4.7, if you are on a PC or upgrade if you are on a Mac.
good luck,
Sal
