I'm told I will be laughed at for posting this question here, but I really need
help. I'm running mac OS 10.4 Tiger. I'm trying to find a free player that will
run .flv files. Does anyone have suggestions. After repeated attempts I've
learned that either macromedia flash is not the same as flash player, or I'm an
idiot. Please help. Thanks.

there is no FLV player - there is a Flash Player that plays SWF files (format compiled from the
authoring tool Flash). In these SWF movies an FLV can be played.

is flash player available for mac? if so where. I tried downloading macromedia flash , but it won't play the flv files (it does play the swf file just fine).

Note that there are some standalone FLV players (some of which are just a
projector exe that lets you pick the flv and then plays it inside the swf
that is in the projector). Not sure if many/any are available for mac
though

you cant just run an flv inside the swf unless you have authored the FLA (flash source file) to call
the FLV dynamically to play it. The browser plugin is not a default FLV player - it will play FLVs
that the developer calls dynamically into the swf via actionScript.
