OK I have been racking my brain to get this resolved and unfortunately there
isn't a lot of info on the web.
Scenario: We are in a shared environment. Central file server (Mac OS X
server) over gigabit enet. We open flash files over the network and then we
"try" to publish the files back to the same server in which the .fla is stored.
(I have read John at Adobe's comments on the practice but this DID work).

So we access the flash file at /Volumes/ServerName/JobFolder/~Flash/ and we
"attempt to" publish the .swf to
/Volumes/ServerName/JobFolder/htmlfolder/flash .... this was working
previously in flash 6-7 but in 8-cs3 it has stopped working and we are kicking
ourselves to get some answers.

When we try to publish we get the following error:
"Error creating Flash movie file.
Be sure the destination is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that
the file name is not too long."

The publish path is: /Volumes/ServerName/JobFolder/~Flash/fileName.swf

What is going on and is there a solution like there USED** to be??

visualinventor,

Did you find a fix to your issue? I am receiving the same error message,
although I am working slightly different from you. I copied a FLA file from the
network to work on my desktop. The file saves okay, but will give me the error
message when trying to publish the SWF file.

I have made the the files are not read-only. I have tried publishing directly
to the network. No luck.

I can't determine if the file is corrupted or if something else is going on
... like the FLA is trying to access something on the network but can't find it?

I had the same problem while publishing the file from within the Flash CS4 on
my iMac.
I have then decided to open the same file in the Flash CS4 on my other PC and
the error message was different - actually more descriptive - it simply said
that the folder to which I'm about to publish the file doesn't exists.
I have purchased the source file form the online stock and then copied files
to the different folder - where I was amending the layout etc. Basically what I
had to do was to go to the Publish Settings and change the Output location to
the new one - this has solved the problem for me.

Hi, I too was having that problem, but I was able to easily fix it on a Mac OS
X Leopard with Flash CS4. All I had to do, was went into Flash, and selected
"Publish Settings" and update where the Flash (.swf) file is pointed to. Hope
this helps!

THERE IS THE ANSWER.

I was sent the flash file and it was pointing to their directory.
Even if you are exporting a mov of swf you have to update those
settings!

Thanks!
