Eye Candy & Fireworks

Earlier this year I was using Fireworks 4 on a Mac (under OS9). Somehow
I managed to add the Glass effect to the Eye Candy menu and then used it
on a particular graphic.

However during the last week I've had to rebuild my Mac and have
installed Fireworks MX. When I open the graphic that I created, it says
that the Live Effect "Glass" is missing/not installed.

I know that the Glass effect isn't included in Eye Candy LE that ships
with FW, but I downloaded the Eye Candy demo from AlienSkin's web site.
I copied the Glass folder to the Eye Candy folder within the Fireworks
Extras and when I started up Fireworks the effect didn't load. Only the
bevel, marble + 1 other. Can anyone suggest how I might be able to get
the Glass effect to load?

Could you have perhaps been pointing Fireworks to use plugins from a
Photoshop plugins folder, or some other folder on your hard drive? If you
used the Glass effect before, then presumably you owned a copy of Eye Candy
at some point. I'd suggest you re-install Eye Candy. Or if you don't own it,
you should consider buying it--the Alien Skin filters are great.

Eye Candy are excellent FX and well worth the price. I also am a big fan of Flaming Pear plugins, although they're a tiny bit touchy on my XP P4 1.8. I'm also pointing at Photoshop plugs but IMHO they're much more gimmicky.

If memory serves correctly, the glass effect is not available, fully
functioning on the demo version. What are you trying to create? You can do a
lot without Eye Candy, if you know what you're trying to achieve.
Can you post your original graphic which used Eye Candy on some web space?
You should still be able to see the effect in an application which treats
PNG's as flat bitmaps. It just won't be editable, and the instruction to
create an effect will probably confuse Fireworks, so viewing in your browser
or another application which treats PNG's as flat bitmap would probably be
necessary.
