I have recently been having a problem with loading Fireworks 8 and Flash 8.
Instead of getting to the main page, I would get a message telling me of an
internal error - unable to load which didn't tell me too much so I didn't know
where to start looking. I got the usual 'Flash has encountered a problem and
needs to shut down. Sorry for the inconvenience' error with Flash but reading
the technical jargon didn't help as it blamed an 'unknown' application. Lucky
enough I was due a format and reinstall so I took the chance to see what
program was causing a possible confliction. One of the first programs I
installed after the format was Fireworks and it loaded up straight away without
any probs so I continued to install my applications and checking Fireworks
after every 2-3 installs. The crash occured on my machine after the
installation of Ace Mega CoDecs Packs v5.93. I usually opt for complete
install of the codec pack but doing that generated the error with Fireworks and
Flash. I then uninstalled the codec pack, cleaned the registry and installed
again but opting for a minimal installation....and I'm happy to say that so
far, so good..no crashes from either applications.
From reading this and other forums, I can definately see a trend with this
error so if any of you use Ace Mega CoDec pack, you may want to think about
reinstalling with different options.
If anyone out there wants to spend more time of what particular codec causes
the crash, be my guest....these last few hours have fried my brain - need
sleep! :-)
Hope that helps :-)
One of the things that causes that particular error is a corrupted font.

Ace Mega Codec Packs are 'as the name suggests' codec packs for viewing, authoring media. They're pretty much complete packs for all types of video/dvd files and are free for use :-)
I have completed the process of installing the codecs one by one to see where
the error occurs which took quite a bit of time considering the amount of
codecs in the pack!!
Anyway, the error is caused by the QuickTime Decoder which is a pretty popular
codec and not just available with the Ace Mega Codec pack.
Hope that helps someone :-)

I'm just clearly trying to help others as it is quite a common problem and so
far the solutions have been a bit week i.e tweakui.
Don't worry about a thanks, I did it all for love of your product :-)
Yes - sure. If you are waiting for Macromedia to fix a problem that they
don't feel like they own, then, well, you may wait a long time.

We all do. But there's no Macromedia here - we're all users....

At what point did I ask for Macromedia to fix the problem? Is this the same
standard reply you give to all the posters who ask for help on this site??
This is a forum where people can exchange views as well as ask for support or
assistance! Thought I was doing people a favour by taking the time to work out
what was causing the problem - from all i found on Google, a lot of people have
been having the same problem and the only thing Macromedia have done so far is
to suggest the problem lies with TweakUI. So if my little bit of information
helps someone fix this problem on their PC, I'm happy - you on the other hand
are clearly not. Cheer up :-)
