I just purchased FW CS4 (full) to replace my ancient Fireworks 4 (yes, *4*).
Unfortunately, CS4 tries to update text in my old FW files and promptly
displays a message "Could not render the database. An internal error occured."
It would really suck if I bought this but cannot edit my old FW files! Anyone
else having this trouble and know of a solution?

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell XPS 420 with a quad core
processor.

Problems on the Mac side also...

"Could not render the database"
"Fireworks is low on memory"

I got 2 gigs in a 2.33mHz Mac Intel Duo and the file is only 2 megs or so in
size but can't handle creating a second state... Kinda sorry I just deleted my
CS3 version for the new install of CS4...

Hi Bopjo, Burndog13,

Will it be possible for you to share the png files where the error is being generated?

Thanks

Please upload the file at some file sharing website and post the link.

Burndog13, you can try the Private Message route below the user name if you
don't want to share th efile.

Tough, if you can share it, then you can get more user feedback and see if the
issue can be tracked down.

Here is mine. I also get the error when I try to toggle the Web Layer on or
off. Plus, my slices don't show up as green like they should. In fact they show
up as transparent.

Hey Bopjo

I was able to open your file, toggle Web Layers without a problem.

I did get an prompt to Replace/Maintain APpearance for Fonts you used that
don't exist on my system. Tried both options and it was fine.

What happens when you toggle the 2(@) key? This should toggle Slice/Web Layers
on off. Does this work for you?

I get the same error. You opened the file in CS4, right? Are you using Windows
Vista Home Premium? Where you able to see the green slices?

I get this error message on both my desktop system and my laptop.

Try resetting your Preferences file.

Close Fw, browse to below path, and MOVE the Fireworks CS4 Preferences.txt
file out of this folder, and restart Fw.

Windows Vista:
[Drive, C:]\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Fireworks CS4\[application
language folder, such as "English"]\Fireworks CS4 Preferences.txt

See if this helps.

Nope, same problem. I have encountered a new problem as well. When trying to
install extentions from the FW exchange I get error messages in the extention
manager like:

"Can't create folder...[/path/]"

Sounds like a permissions problem to me.

Can you try the following solution posted at another Thread which relates to
Vista functioning?
"Navigate to the program file for the extension manager and select properties.
On the compatibility tab select the option to run as administrator, click on
the all users options and select run as administrator for all users if desired
and then apply. Of course the option is only available if you have the UAC
turned on.
Now, re-install the extensions and you should have no problems. You'll just
have to deal with the UAC everytime you use the extension manager."

Does it solve the extensions installation issue?
