Hi folks,

I'm a wee bit of an amateur but have a question,

I have the domain, www.tom-bennett.com and am currently in the process of
designing the site. I have a temp page up at the mo.

I am investigating the use of forms. Now the last site I did was with
publisher and inserting a form was really easy, I told it i wanted the data
to be sent by email, gave it my email address and hey presto, i recieved the
data.

How do i do it so the data written in the form is sent to me via email?! Do
i need some sort of cgi script? Do I need to ensure a "certain service" is
available on my server? If so which service?

The simplest way would be appreciated !

Thanks folks.

Tom.

It would be easier if you used CDOMail or ASPMail instead of cgi. Check to
see if your hosting company has these components installed. If so, then
it's pretty easy. I can email you the .asp code that will interact with your
form.

Hi tom

It's probably easiest to use a cgi script called formmail.pl. In order to
use this, a recent version of Perl needs to be installed on the server (by
the hosting company). Most hosting companies offer this as a standard part
of the service, but in your case, I believe that unless you've paid for the
200MB service or upwards, you need to ask them to upgrade to cgi. I presume
they'll charge you for this. If the fee is high, I suggest you move to
another host.

The best thing to do is to go to http://www.appbuild.com/formmail_help.html
and print out the instructions, which are very easy to follow.

If you follow the instructions carefully, you shouldn't have any major
problems.

Regards

Pete
